Clicking YouTube links in Google app opens the YouTube app instead of showing content on iPhone 16 Pro Max with iOS 26

Why is it that when I click on a YouTube link in the Google app on my iPhone 16 Pro Max with iOS 26, it opens the YouTube app instead of showing the content, my iPhone was doing the “right thing” before the iOS 26 update by

1) click on links (fb or chrome or others)

2) open YouTube app and YouTube will

3) show up the content for the link

Seems more like Google being Google, and keeping you where you can be better tracked and targeted, and which is probably considered “the right way” according to Google, but you can confirm that with Google Support.

Allowing apps and websites to link to your content | Apple Developer Documentation

Some apps have a setting (Settings > Apps > [app name] > [something selecting how to open links]. Not all apps have this switch, and the name can vary.

Alternatively, use Safari or Waterfox or some other web browser, and not the Google apps.
