Why do I have to hit send more than once when sending an iMessage?

Do other apps have unresponsive buttons as well?
Did you already force restart your iPhone?

Try adjusting your tap/touch settings under accessibility testing the three options for single tap double tap etc.
for example I have found that I have a smoother experience when I turn off predictive text for everything put my cursor to not flashing and large And I turned my tap setting to light single Tap / firm on double tap
Does this also happen, if you use iMessage in landscape mode?
No other apps have unresponsive buttons and I have restarted my phone.
