Dynamic island doesn't show any info or data

I am on a second iPhone 14 Pro for which the dynamic island doesn't function. It shows up on the screen top, it gives haptic feedback when touched. I cannot find any setting to toggle it on or off, nor are there references to live activity in the apps I've checked.

I returned an iPhone specifically for this problem. Now having gotten a second phone, the same problem is recurring. There's no rhyme or reason for this. The island is up there taking up real estate but shows no feedback, no messages, it's simply a black oblong at the top of the screen that does nothing. I've followed various guides and still cannot get this to function.

Not all apps support Live Activities. But you can easily test it. Try opening the Clock app, start a timer, and go to the home screen. Usually you will see the timer running up in Dynamic Island.

Also note that if you have a Focus profile enabled, this can/will block notifications in Dynamic Island.

Okay, thanks. I found that I could use Voice Memo and see the island show the recording in progress. And the clock app also shows the timer count. I see that the 'Focus Status' in 'On' so not sure if that means a profile is enabled or not.

This feature doesn't do much as far as I can see so far so I wonder if it's worth the real estate it takes up.

Remember that when you have an app running in Dynamic Island, you can quickly access it by just tapping on the island.

If a Focus profile, such as Do Not Disturb, is activated, you will not see notifications in Dynamic Island. You can deactivate a Focus profile in the control center. Pull down from the top right corner of the display, find the Focus button (often it looks like a crescent moon), and tap to deactivate.

Dynamic Island is a further development of the passive notch that was before (before the iPhone 14 Pro), and which used more of the screen. You get more screen with Dynamic Island + features like Live Activities, and the FaceID camera and sensors have to be hidden in some way, and Dynamic Island does that very well.
