Ipad battery goes up in flames and smoke. Can I get any compensation?

I was in my dorm room on my laptop when my Ipad, that was charging, suddenly made some weird noises, popped open and started emiting smoke and some small flames. I it dragged outside when it stopped spewing smoke like a smoke generator and it got taken by the maintenance team since it was hazardous. Is there anything I can do to get compensation from Apple? It seems to be quite the serious health issue for it to just go up on its own. I was lucky to be in, if not it would have set my table on fire, considering that when i chucked it away from me on to the floor it burnt the carpet.
