'Delete' tab hidden after the latest iOS update on iPhone

the most recent ios update means I now have to click more just in order to delete emails on my iPhone. Is there a rational reason for the extra step (and hidden delete icon) or has Apple forgotten customer service

Apple changed Mail to prioritize “Archive,” which hid the Delete button behind additional steps.

You can restore one-tap Delete by changing:

Settings → Mail → Accounts → (Your Account) → Advanced → Move Discarded Messages Into → Deleted Mailbox

or by customizing:

Settings → Mail → Swipe Options → Trash

Once changed, Delete works like before — no extra taps.
