How do I have the songs play in the order I have them set in my artist library?

Apple Music for Mac Tahoe 26.1 - Mac M3 Pro Mackbook

Ever since the latest update, I have the most frustrating issue in Apple Music.

In the artist view, when I click on the first song in an album in my library, it used to do what I would expect it to do - play that song, and then play the next song on the album, and then the next one. When that album would end, it would play the next album by that artist.

But it does not do this anymore.

Now, It plays that album, and then it adds all of my saved albums to my queue in alphabetical order and starts playing those instead. I have autoplay turned OFF and I have tried clearing the queue, but when I start a song, it doesn't matter, it just refills the queue as if i'm in the album view and plays that instead of playing the albums from the artist I selected in the order I have them set in my library.

If I go to an artist and press the "play" button at the top, it will play the albums from my library, but not in the order I have them set in. It will just automatically play them in release order from oldest to newest no matter how i have them organized

Why is it doing this? How do I stop this? It's so maddening. If I want to play the albums in the order I want, I have to highlight them all and add them to the queue manually to stop it from playing a bunch of stuff I didn't ask for. This is SO TEDIOUS. I NEVER had to do this before and on my phone it still works the way it used to.

Can someone please please help me. I'm so close to finding another platform to use.

Change Artist View to “Sort By: Manual”

Apple quietly added a new sorting behavior.

In Music → click your Artist → scroll to the top → look for:

View Options → Sort Albums By → Manual Order

If you don’t see “Manual Order,” switch to:

  • Sort Album By → Title
  • Then change it back to Manual Order

Sometimes this forces macOS Music to respect your ordering for that session.

No matter where I look I don't see a manual option at all.

And now that I've touched the sorting settings it won't even play a whole album anymore. I click on a song in artists view and it just plays that one song and then it fills the "continue playing" queue with a bunch of random unrelated songs.

I just want to use apple music the way i used to: go to an artist, start from the first song in the order i have them sorted, and have it just play the rest as i'm seeing it on my screen. I don't understand why this is happening.

i'm so sad!

How do I have the songs play in the order I have them set in my artist library?
