Camera yellow light appears when making phone call & automatic screen shot of data.

when I go to make a phone call the camera yellow light turns on.

I never even set up facial recognition and all my setting are off except for this one which is greyed out.

why is my phone accessing the camera to make a phone call unless it’s spying on me. I also noticed it’s taking a screenshot of certain information for tracking purposes like my banking. Or other apps.

my screen flashes like it took a pic.

WTAF❓

I just got the new IPhone 17 during Black Friday.

how do I turn this setting off. It’s not needed because I’m not using facial recognition.

this isn’t a bug it’s by design.

I turned all setting off and & reset it.

problem still exists.

The yellow/orange light means your microphone is being used which of course is needed for a phone call. The camera indicator is a green light, so no your phone is not accessing your camera when making a phone call.

You will have to provide more information about what you are referring to a screenshot. You are not being spied on and your phone is not automatically capturing your screen, although it may be possible you are inadvertently doing that by pressing the Volume Up and Side button at the same time.

Thank you about the yellow light. I was confused by what was said on the Internet about a yellow camera light. 👍

as far as what appears as a screen shot.
I entered my banking app and the screen flashed like it took a pic.

No problem. With the flash you saw it may have just been the app when it launched or you inadvertently took the screenshot by holding the side of the phone with those 2 buttons.

Nothing nefarious is capturing your screen and the flash along with the click when a screenshot is taken is just a software effect when you initiate the screen capture using those buttons, it is not a warning that your screen is being captured and it also cannot be done remotely. The app you are using has all the contents of the screen, so there is no need for it to do a screenshot, and with all apps sandboxed, it is not possible for another app to take a screenshot of your banking app.

I noticed the flash was occurring during certain times after I updated my iPhone 13 before I traded it in. I thought it might have been the older phone. But it occurred with the new 17 Pro so I mentioned it here.

I can’t give you a screen shot of it.

Open the Photos App. Tap Collections. Tap Media Types and swipe from right to left and then tap Screenshots. Perhaps what you thought might have been a Photo being taken is there?

The orange camera indicator is separate from Face ID. The orange status icon 🟠 shows when certain microphone-using apps are active, including Face Time, and the Phone app. To see which app, swipe down from the top-right corner of the screen to open Control Center. (There’s a little white horizontal line there indicating that section can be “pulled” down, just as there’s a horizontal line at the bottom showing a control can be pulled up.) The most recent camera-using app will be shown at the top of the Control Center display.

Face ID and Stolen Device Protection can make a more serious problem less likely, if your iPhone gets stolen. Enabling Face ID also makes using a more robust passcode or password easier.

Without Stolen Device Protection enabled, a device with a known passcode — such as the thief saw it entered while in a crowd — causes serious problems for the owner of the stolen iPhone.

Pressing both the side and then volume (as was mentioned earlier) is the screenshot control:

I actually don’t have a pic. So if I actually accidentally took a pic I would have it show up in photos but it’s not there. I never took a pic when it happened.

Screenshots only go to Photos if you explicitly save them there. So, yes, you could be taking a screenshot accidentally and not see it anywhere on your phone.
