Cant verify Icloud account to download apps

I recently got an IPad as a gift, I've made an icloud account for it, and when I try and download apps it tells me I need to verify my account, I get sent an email on my phone, I click the link, log into the page, and nothing happens, what do I do?

Account verification is a somewhat nebulous term Apple uses. It could mean you need to check and also make sure your Apple Account information is up to date -->  https://account.apple.com/ . However, in 20 years of having an Apple Account I have never seen this so I suspect it goes beyond that. If you are seeing this message as part of wanting to download something from one of the stores, see if what they mean is "verify payment". Add a payment method to your Apple ID as outlined in: Add a payment method to your Apple Account - Apple Support .

On an iPhone:

Open the Settings app.

Tap your name.

Tap Media & Purchases, then tap View Account. You might be asked to sign in with your Apple ID.

Tap Manage Payments.

Read the support article for how to do this on other platforms.

It could also mean:

Identity verification for Apple Card or Apple Cash

To protect your account, you might be asked to verify your identity when using Apple Cash or applying for Apple Card. Read in this support article how to do that. --> Verify your identity for Apple Card or Apple Cash - Apple Support

If neither of those help, refer to this page for Apple Support features ➔ Contact - Official Apple Support

If the presented options do not resolve your issue, keep experimenting with any series of selections until you reach one that gets you a chat session or a telephone call and get the representative to redirect you.

Re: "Cant verify Icloud account to download apps"

Apple's App Store may require faceID, touch id, or your passcode.

(Note: There can be download restrictions preventing downloading apps

: ie: parental controls, or Screen Time, or settings)

or

If you find you need a verification code in order to access an account:

Make sure the email is really from Apple, and not from scme scammer trying to get your personal details:

Re: " I've made an icloud account"

Your Apple Account is the one account you use to access Apple services like the App Store, Apple Music, iCloud, iMessage, FaceTime, and more. It includes the email address and password you use to sign in as well as the contact, payment, and security details you use across Apple services.

Seems Apple requires we have a payment method listed in an Apple Account for the first time we use the App Store or iTunes, even if only downloading free apps:

Check if you’re signed in to your Apple Account on your iPad:

See Settings > [your name] > Sign-In & Security

(If you don't have an Apple Account, and you want or need to, you can create an Apple Account:

See: How to create a new Apple Account - Apple Support )

See which payment methods Apple can accept in your country or region:

See how to add a payment method:

If needed: See how to get apps:

Get apps in the App Store on iPad - Apple Support

Eg: says:

"Buy and download an app

  1. Go to the App Store app on your iPad.
  2. Navigate to the app you want, then tap Get (if the app is free) or the price.
  3. If you see instead of Get or the price, you’ve already purchased this app before. Tap to download it again for free.
  4. If required, authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode to complete your purchase.
  5. Purchases are made with the payment method associated with your Apple Account.

You can find the app in the Recently Added category in App Library. While the app is downloading, a progress indicator appears on the app icon.
