Unable to access my 78 recorded Significant Locations on iPhone

Why can Apple collect and access all of my 'Significant Locations', but I only can access one location. Currently, 78 recent Sig Locations are recorded, but I cannot see where I have been? Only Apple (& whichever law enforcement agency) can review this information. Can someone from Apple please provide a straightforward, real answer to my question? The location data obviously exists>Apple says so.

Why am I prevented from accessing my own data?

Thanks.

You're not writing Apple here. This is a user to user only forum, so no, we can't speak for Apple and Apple doesn't actively read these posts for questions or user feedback.

I'll take a stab at this for you. Significant locations is intended to be used for Stolen Device Protection. It records and remembers the places you spend the most time, like home or work. It was never intended to give you or anyone else access to all the locations you've visited. This would be a major privacy issue if every place you've been can be viewed and is surely the reason you don't have the ability to see every location.

Again, that's my stab, but a likely really good stab. If you want to share your thoughts on this with Apple, you can use this link --> Feedback - iPhone - Apple

Your phone is not a personal tracking device for good reason. There are apps you can use that will monitor your location and make it available to you, Law Enforcement, and third parties if you wish. Your phone uses it for Map Suggestions and services such as Stolen Device Protection, none of which has any relevance for anyone with your device Passcode to use. At one time it was possible, but I am sure you could understand how that information could be used against you and be a serious privacy concern.

No! Apple does not have the encryption key to view this data or be able to turn it over to Law Enforcement. That is the point and may help you understand why it is not viewable. Law Enforcement may subpeona your cell provider for location data, but Apple is not able to give it to them.

  • Device location services information is stored on each individual device and Apple cannot retrieve this information from any specific device.

This has been asked many times. You cannot see them, we think for security reasons,

If you want a timeline of where you have been, open a google account, authorise your timeline in Google Maps, and give Google Maps access to location services "Always" in iphone Privacy & Security.

Google know where you go, may as well record it for yourself.

That is correct.

Why?.....

While we cannot answer directly for Apple, they have stated in the past that they will protect your security and privacy as much as possible. Remember that you might own your iPhone, but Apple owns the operating system on your iPhone and you signed an agreement to license it from them.

The bottom line.....Apple can do anything they want with their software, including controlling your access to data stored in the software.

Actually, having it set up this way prevents law enforcement agencies from accessing this data. It exists only on your phone. Apple can't give anyone access to what they themselves don't have access to.

If you could access the data, you could also be compelled to provide that data to law enforcement.
