I am trying to print an envelope using Pages on a Mac mini. I will print to an HP Officejet Pro 8710. When I open the return address bar and type it defaults to double spacing. How do I change it to single spacing?

There's nothing inherently special about the return address. It's just a text block. I'm not sure why it's defaulting to double-spaced, but it's easy to change in the same way you would change the spacing on any other block of text, namely Inspector -> Format -> Text -> Spacing:
Ordinarily, at least on my system, this paragraph uses a Style called (not surprisingly) Return Address. I guess this could have been overwritten at some point, but it's easy to change back.

Did you select the entire return address before changing the setting? Changes here apply to the selection, so if the relevant block of text isn't selected, it won't have any effect.
OK, just after my last post I went back to the return address and typed it again so I could select it and change the line spacing. Lo and behold the single spacing worked as I typed. I tried changing the spacing many times and it finally worked.
No, I assumed the format/text selections were for the block. So I should type the return address, select all the text and then change spacing option? You would think you could change the default spacing.
I found that and it was set to 1.4 but changing it to 1 does nothing. It doesn't take effect. I looked for an activate or apply button or something like that but couldn't find anything.
