How do I contact a user after their post is no longer visible?

how do I reply or contact the person who posted an issue or a question after the string is stopped?

I cannot reply to or contact the person who posted about an interesting symptom that I would like to add some info to.

Start a new thread about the issue and in your post provide a link to the previous locked thread as reference.

You can not contact individual posters in these communities.

You cannot. There is no direction messaging between users and at some point threads will be locked after a period of time or when there is inactivity with the OP no longer contributing. In most cases a post will only be removed when there has been a violation of the Terms of Use, they are not automatically removed after a period of time and you can see some posts here from 10+ years ago, although they will likely be locked due to the age.

Also, in my long tenure here I have seen very few posters who come back weeks or months later to look for new answers to their threads.

If you come here from a search engine, you will see far too many of those banners. Search engines are not conducive to effectively helping here because they cannot differentiate between active and inactive threads.

The better way to help here:

—Bookmark this forum site map: Site Map - Apple Community

—Choose topic areas where you feel you can best help.

—Use the site map’ topic links to go directly to those topics.

—Work the first few pages with the newest posts.

That gives posters the most current information, and they can recognize your contributions with an upvote.
