Numbers RANK function outputs currency with appended text

Apple Numbers 14.4 Function Rank responds correctly until I append text then it formats as currency.

i.e RANK(A$1,DAILY GAIN ALL YEARS) results in an integer i.e."429", but "Daily Gain Rank "&RANK(A$1,DAILY GAIN ALL YEARS) results in "Daily Gain Rank $429.00". The cell is indicating "Automatic" formating. Changing formating of the cell to "Number" makes no difference and doesn't stick nor does formatting the cell prior to function entry and the format returns to "Automatic". I have used the ""& to append text before and after the function elsewhere on the same sheet without this issue.

That is an interesting result. When a cell reference is used in a string, the value is typically formatted as the cell was. But in this case, RANK should give a straight number, not the format of the underlying data. I wonder if other functions have this same problem. It appears to be an oversight/bug in the code, one of those "I didn't think of that" kind of bugs.

I found that putting VALUE around RANK fixed the problem in my test spreadsheet.

="Daily Gain Rank "&VALUE(RANK(A$1,DAILY GAIN ALL YEARS))
