Apple TV usage and possible subscription?

I have a question about Apple TV. I want to watch the Formula 1 races, which Apple TV is now going to carry. Can I watch those races, events for free because of my Apple iMac. Or , do I have to pay for a Apple TV subscription to view those races? Can anyone help and shed some light on the subject.

Also, when I click the Apple TV icon on my dock tray, I'm suppose to access a "home". I don't see a home link when open my Apple TV. Can someone explain why I don't see it? Certainly appreciate any help. I've never tried to use Apple TV so I'm completely new to the experience.

Yes, you will need a subscription to Apple TV to view the races.

As for not seeing the Home tab, post a screenshot of what you see after opening the Apple TV app. On the left side of the app, you should have a sidebar with locations to select, but not sure how it appears on Mac OS 12.7 as seen in your tagline.

OK, I think that does help. In your version of Apple TV on Mac OS Monterey, the Home tab that has been referenced is called Watch Now and does appear on the top of the screen as opposed to the sidebar.

After you launch the Apple TV app on your Mac, look at the menu bar at the top of the screen. One of the menus should be Account, where you will then have the option to sign in if you are not signed in already. That is how you sign into the service using your Apple Account and you will be able to watch any content after you have a subscription with that account. If you are already signed in with your Apple Account, then the only thing you are missing is the subscription to watch the content.

If you have never signed up for the Apple TV subscription before, you should have a free trial that you can use for a certain amount of time to try out the service. If you don't want to continue and pay for the subscription after the trial is over, just make sure to cancel at least 24 hours before the trial period ends.

Thank you for your reply, Jim D. I now understand I will need a subscription to view the F1 races. As for showing you a screen shot of what I see when I click on my Apple TV icon in the dock, I can't figure out a way to take a screen shot when I open that link? There is no option available to me when I open that link? The screen shows a Ted Lasso? image and at the top of the screen it says watch now, Apple TV plus, store and library. I don't see any other options to for to log in or what ever? I can scroll down and see a lot of shows. But no option for home. It seems maybe some how I need to log in?

I've never used Apple TV and I'm sort of new to my iMac as well and how to use it's various functions. I've taken screen shots before, but the window or screen that appears when I access Apple TV just doesn't give me a screen shot option? It seems the screen that appears just locks out taking a screen shot?

Hi Jim, thank you for your reply, much appreciated. Sorry for the delayed response. Understand the home tab issue now. I do see watch now at the top. Being I don't see the link "account" I presume when I access the icon in my dock, I am logged in to Apple TV? And, I will need to subscribe to the service to view the F1 races as you suggest.

Being I have NEVER streamed anything before not exactly sure how to view the F1 activity on my TV. I have a NON SMART TV, so I presume I will need a device to get my iMac computer to transfer the picture to my TV. Again, never have done this procedure before. Any suggestions, Jim as what would be the best way to accomplish what I'm trying to do? Certainly appreciate any help. Thank you, Mac Jim ID.

Certainly viewing Apple TV on a Non Smart TV is not ideal and you have a couple options.

Connect the Mac to the TV depending on the input ports available on the TV. May not be great video quality depending on the display resolution of the TV.

Use your TV as a display with Mac - Apple Support (IN)

Purchase the Apple TV 4K set-top box to connect to your TV. The TV would need a HDMI port, and video quality is still limited to what the TV supports.

Apple TV 4K - Apple

My recommendation is to either watch the Apple TV content on your Mac or purchase a Smart TV where the Apple TV app will be available directly on the TV.

Hi Jim, thank you for your reply. Understand watching a Apple TV content may be best on my iMac considering the other options. I will look at the two links you sent with your reply and see what that suggests.

You suggest after opening the Apple TV app. and clicking on "watch now" I should see the link "account". I do not see that. Maybe I am already logged in when I click on the icon? But nonetheless, how do I access sporting events when I open Apple TV? I only see various TV shows or movies when I click the link "watch now".

Certainly appreciate you taking the time to help, Jim. Being I have NEVER streamed anything or tried to view my computer content with my TV, I may more questions? But, certainly appreciate your help! Thank you, Mac Jim ID.
