Erratic pointer on Facebook

Tahoe 26.2 & Safari 26.2 on my M1 iMac

Not only brought back the jerky pointer, but made it worse. Previous Settings that could correct it are gone.

Pointer acceleration OFF now wildly exaggerates movement. It has to be ON to at least minimize the jerkiness.

To test the jerky pointer problem, I have been mainly visiting FaceBook due to activity there.

It recently occurred to visit other websites.

No jerky pointer…Only on Facebook!

Now the erratic pointer makes Facebook unusable.

Due my resharing memes questioning or highlighting the current regime problems, I have often been restricted or “in FB Jail”.

Some days, only after one post.

I had decided they were using a monitoring algorithm on my posting activity.

Recently, as soon as I start scrolling, behavior has become erratic, jumping forward and back, often clear back to the top frame.

I am now wondering if they might be testing another algorithm to make my mouse unusable.Safari

Something is not working right with your Safari as installed. Here is what you can do (assuming you want to eliminate this problem):

(1) List all Safari extensions that you have installed. If possible uninstall all of them (Mr. Hoffman's advice). Then retest.

(2) Download Etrecheck, it is free. Run it giving it full access/privileges. It is a diagnostic tool only, it produces an anonymous report that may identify the culprit. Please post the report here following these instructions:

I believe that there has to be something installed that is causing this. Etrecheck has a good chance at finding it. Given the millions (billions?) of Mac users, most running Safari, who access Facebook, and aren't complaining ... there has to be something installed on your Mac that is conflicting.

I don't use Facebook very often so I just went to it using Safari and on my older Mac (2019 16" MacBook Pro, Intel) with Tahoe 26.2 the scrolling and pointer work very smoothly. I have no Safari extensions installed, so you might examine your setup for that. Also, other background items running can impact Safari responsiveness. Examples of things running in the background: user-installed Finder enhancements, third party menu bar utilities, anti-virus, network security monitors or utilities, mouse or keyboard functionality enhancements ... things like that. Do you have any?

Try a different browser, if you have the same issue there then try a different mouse or Magic Trackpad and compare your results .

Thanks.

From earlier…

I have downloaded & tested with DuckDuckGo, Chrome, Opera, and Firefox.

No problems erratic pointer with them.

I have used and preferred Safari since it was introduced.

All of the others lack Safari features or are harder to use.

I have posted the issue to Facebook Help & Support > Crickets

I hadn't tried the Trackpad.

I only turn it on as backup for when the Magic Mouse needs recharge.

Trackpad works without the erratic jumpy pointer.

Just Very slow and a pain to drag objects between windows.

So far, Trackpad and Magic Mouse on/connected seem to reduce the erratic pointer,

but scrolling is slowed to the speed of the Trackpad and jerky.

Thanks all. I appreciate all suggestions.
