iPad Pro browser background black; how to change to white?

I updated my iPad Pro with the latest iOS 26.2 The background on my browser turned black


how can I change it to blue letters on white background


this has happened before and it was an easy fix but after searching all over I'm at my wits end


light mode is on and automatic is off 🤦‍♀️

So, that suggests 2 things are happening.


  1. You are currently in Private Browsing mode and
  2. You have the "Show Color in Tab Bar" option turned on in Settings ➜ Apps ➜ Safari ➜ Tabs


Either exit private browsing mode by tapping on the icon

at the top left corner and selecting a tab group other than Private, or going into Settings and switching the "Show Color in Tab Bar" option off.

What background? Does this happen on a specific web page? Does it happen everywhere?

Are you referring to the color on the top toolbar? The background on a website? In the Favorites view? Where exactly?


Please provide as much detail as possible about the issue.


Otherwise, we are guessing at what may be the issue and where it's actually happening.
