Can I use a Dutch SIM card in a Japanese iPhone 17 Pro and maintain the same mobile data experience?

Hi there, i am going to japan soon and i need a new phone should i buy in japan?

So im going to japan soon, i live in the netherlands and im planning on getting a 17pro, in japan it is 180.000 yen which translates to 950 euros, in the netherlands the same specced 17pro is 1350 euros

which is 400 euros more, i would love to save some money but is it possible to use a dutch sim card in this japanese phone and if my mobile data is handled the same if i have a phone from a different country.

Only if it's unlocked. Note that you'll likely be denied warranty or AppleCare+ service on it outside of Japan, and won't be able to turn off the shutter sound when taking a photo with the built-in applications.

Yes, 17 Pro sold in Japan is eSIM only. Your carrier will need to support dual eSIM or you’ll be switching carriers. Yes, your carrier in Netherlands might not support some bands your iPhone has, and your iPhone might not support some bands your carrier uses.

Yes, I’m told the shutter sound on new iPhones don’t make the shutter sound outside of a handful of Asian countries.

Factor in the cost of service should your phone need to be fixed and you'll learn that the cost savings is not worth the hassle. iPhone Warranty is NOT international and in most places the warranty is limited to the country of purchase. How much it would cost for you to get on a plane and go back to Japan if you need warranty support? Likely a LOT more than the cost difference between the Netherlands and Japan. On reentry into the Netherlands, you may need to pay VAT as well, but you'd need to check on that with your taxing authority.

Honestly, we ALWAYS recommend that it's best to purchase your iPhone in the country you live. Your money though.......

it says on the japanese site that its ''sim free'' does that mean i need to change it to esim?

and about the shutter sound i heard it turns off when outside of japan so that should be fine.

Another concern i forgot to mention in the post was that theres some type of data bandwith or something i dont fully remember but someone told me that there are different types of 5G all over the world, do apple phones just support any or will it be different if its a japanese phone
