MacBook Pro 16" 2019: Sudden shutdowns and charging issues

“Hello Apple Support Team,

I am experiencing a problem with my MacBook Pro 16" 2019 (refurbished) as follows:

The device shuts down suddenly without any apparent reason, sometimes even when running light applications.

Upon restarting, the following message appears:

"Your computer was restarted because of a problem."

Sometimes the MacBook does not charge even when connected to the charger for long periods, while other times it charges normally.

There are no signs of overheating before the sudden shutdown.

I would like you to check the battery and logic board of the device and advise me on the steps to take under warranty or any available repair options.

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 26.2

FYI, You may or may not get quick responses when posting on a forum. If you want instant support, then you need to contact Apple support directly where you can have an online chat with them.

As for the Apple Diagnostics, I would be surprised if it reports any problems. The Apple Diagnostics....even the Apple service diagnostics don't actually do much testing these days. They basically just check to see if the hardware is present & has basic communication. Even when there is an actual test, it is just a very quick & basic test.

If you just purchased this laptop, then I highly recommend you return it for a full refund. This specific model laptop has an extremely high rate of Logic Board failures (T2 security chip, SSD, memory, GPU).

Plus it sounds like you may have more than one issue with this laptop, or perhaps it had liquid damage which can explain its multiple problems. It doesn't sound like a refurbished laptop, it sounds like a worn out & broken used laptop someone wanted to unload. A lot of unscrupulous sellers will just say "refurbished" where at best they may have reinstalled macOS.

If you want a Mac, then I would suggest avoiding any of the USB-C Intel Macs for multiple reasons. Get an M-series Mac instead, but be careful buying used since there are many unscrupulous sellers and a lot of innocent sellers who don't properly prepare a Mac for sale & you may find that someone else is still managing that used Mac. Buyer beware.

Retuning This to the Seller:

If it is "refurbished", then return it, 100%, logging out of iCloud on it through System Settings. Proceed from there with the return. This is all the more reason to purchase a Mac from Apple, a retailer, or an AASP (Apple Authorized Service Provider).

About Troubleshooting Mac Power:

A. Black Mac Screen:

Go Here: If your Mac doesn't Turn On or Start Up - Apple Support

Using External Devices: Try Resetting the SMC and NVRAM, but this time, using an external keyboard. Connect an external monitor and see if you get an output.

B. Mac Power Issues:

Try a New Charger:

If it is currently charging from a charger, then use a new charger:

I would have Apple run their diagnostics:

In or out of warranty you can get a free over the counter 'Apple Service Diagnostics' test /assessment
