How to resolve error (9). 130A.0000 when setting up a brand new iPhone 17?

Error (9). 130A.0000 Setting up brand new unused iphone 17 using PC and Apple devices.

I've tried all suggestions (DNS) and still getting nowhere. Surely in 2026 this shouldn't be happening!!

If you have wifi, a new phone will set itself up from the Hello screen without resort to any computer.

Using the PC is now the only way forward and it's not working out very well.

I am confused by that comment because it is never required to use a PC (or a Mac for that matter) to set up a brand new unused iPhone. It might be required if the iPhone needs to be restored to its factory settings (Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings using a computer - Apple Support) but a brand new iPhone doesn't need to be restored. It's new. Hence my confusion.

In any event I doubt you're going to get anywhere without contacting Apple. If the iPhone needs to be restored, perhaps it's defective, and should be returned for a refund or exchange. In either case the answer is the same: contact Apple. Use the Support link on these pages.

Thanks for the explanation.

The only time it's necessary (see • below) to connect an iPhone to a Mac or PC is if it needs to be restored: If the Restore screen appears on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support. The need should be rare; so rare I have never personally run into it.

Is that in fact what's going on with your iPhone? If you are not encountering that screen on the iPhone, perhaps it's attempting to prevent you from doing that.
