I don't recall ever seeing a "shared album" icon on a photo. Do you perhaps mean "shared library"? If so, there are settings to control whether new photos go to your Private Library or your Shared Library. What version of iOS is running on your iPhone (or iPadOS if you are taking these photos with Camera on an iPad)?

On my iPhone 17 Pro Max running iOS 26.2.1, there is an icon at the upper left of the screen in the Camera app that looks like the tops of two people (heads and shoulders). It is either tinted yellow to show that pictures are going into my Shared Library, or it is white with a slash through it if they are staying in my Private Library.

Taping on the icon switches its state. That control is made visible or hidden (and the default set) depending on several switches in Settings > Apps > Camera > Shared Library > Sharing from Camera.

Some of those controls interact with your location and the people around you.
