AirPods Pro 3: excessive case status popups after iOS 26.2.1 upgrade

Since the day I upgraded my iPhones and iPad to iOS/iPadOS 26.2.1, the AirPods Pro 3 (firmware 8B34, the current version, as of this writing) case status info popups on my iPhones and iPad Pro have gotten ridiculously excessive. Even when I’m simply sitting near the case, regardless of whether the battery status has changed, I’ll now get random popups from the case, interrupting whatever I’m doing about a dozen times per hour. 

I have disabled battery charging notifications for the AirPods Pro 3, to no noticeable effect. 

Conversely, my AirPods Pro 2 case does not do this any more than it used to; it’s fine.
