Apple Notes auto-refine handwriting stops on iPad

Auto-refine handwriting on Apple Notes on my iPad A16 only works for brief moments. When I create a new note, the auto-refine feature works as expected for some time. After a while, though, it suddenly stops working, and only quitting the Apple Notes app and relaunching it resets the issue and fixes it momentarily until some more minutes pass and it happens again.

Creating a new note "fixes" the issue as in the new note the auto-refine handwritting feature works again as expected, but switching back to the previous note will still not fix the issue on the problematic note, only quitting the app and relaunching it will.

I’ve tried turning the feature off and on, but the issue persists. Restarting the iPad didn’t resolve it either.

I am on iPadOS 26.2.1, but the issue exists for a while now even before 26.2.
