'Move with text' is option unavailable for arrow diagrams in Apple Pages

The option for "Move with text" is greyed-out for arrow diagrams. This has been the case for many years. So, a quick tip: If one makes diagrams, Apple seems to be indicating that one ought to use PC/Word/LaTeX.

The Move with Text is a document Object Placement selection. That alone will not have any effect on inserted objects. When I select the inserted arrow shape, it remains selected, and the Move With Text Object Placement option is highlighted, not greyed-out. But, to get the arrow to move downward on the page when text is added above it is relegated to a couple of choices on the Text Wrap menu: Above and Below, or Inline with Text.

Apple is not indicating anything here. As with any application, there is a learning curve with it. Apple also provides documentation on how to use Pages:

You certainly can use any other product or platform that allows you to achieve your end goal if Pages is not the correct choice.

Apple did not include any TeX distribution with the operating system or within Pages to accommodate associated packages. They incorporated the syntax limited blahtex translator instead. It will convert the (supported) LaTeX into embedded MathML, or the equation editor can accept direct MathML input. I have the full MacTeX 2025 distribution installed in Tahoe 26.3 and Pages could care less…

I have groujped three objects and with that grouped item selected, here is what I see with your other settings:

Pages is not designed to be more advanced as a dedicated third-party tool like Affinity, Pixelmator Pro, Illustrator, Inkscape, or GIMP. For complex object design, use your pick of those and import the resulting image into Pages.

I have created shapes in Inkscape, imported them into Pages as SVG, and then added them to the shapes library.

Tested: Pages v15.1.1, Tahoe 26.3

Thank you for taking the time to respond to my question.

However, it is greyed-out. Typically a single arrow or two will be fine. Add a few arrows, a text box, and group them, and the option is often greyed-out.

My "indication" comment referred more broadly to the lack of facility for complex arrow diagrams in Pages, as well as to the lack of native support for LaTeX packages. Even if there is a laborious way to finesse such a diagram to move with text, I have been unable to recreate it.
