AppleCare+ extension expiry date calculated incorrectly

I’m seeking clarification regarding an issue with my AppleCare+ plan. Here's the timeline of events:

  • Date of Purchase: December 15, 2025
  • Initial AppleCare Plan Expiry: December 15, 2026
  • AppleCare+ Extension (2 years) Purchase Date: January 28, 2026
Expected Expiry After Extension: December 15, 2028 (2 years from the original expiry)
  • Actual Expiry Date After Extension: January 27, 2028 (This matches the date I purchased the AppleCare+ extension, not the original expiry date.)

As per my understanding, when I purchased the AppleCare+ extension, it should have extended the coverage for two additional years from the original expiry of December 15, 2026—meaning the coverage should last until December 15, 2028, not January 27, 2028.

I contacted Apple Support, and after explaining the issue and sharing screenshots of the dates, I was told that another representative would get back to me the next day. However, the only follow-up I received was a message stating they tried to call but could not reach me, and they would try again.

Can someone from Apple clarify whether this is a mistake in the system or if the expiry date is being handled incorrectly?

This is not Apple Care. This is simply the 1 year warranty. Completely independent of any Apple Care+ plan at that point.

You extended said Warranty for 2 years at this point. You have 60 days or 2 months from date of purchase of the device to get Apple Care+ for your device.

No. That would be 3 years of Apple Care+. You purchased Apple Care+ on January 2026,, one year from there, would be January 2027. A second year from there would be January 2028. Why are you expecting an extra 11 months until December 2028? 2 years calculated form the date of purchase of Apple Care+. You get 2 full years of Apple Care+ not 3. It doesn't tack on 2 years to the original 1 year warranty. It takes the Warranty Year and adds one more to make 2, so you have the benefits of Apple Care+ for 2 full years. Otherwise, you would have only the basic Warranty ther first year, and would have to wait until it expires to get the benefits of Apple Care+. It doesn't make sense.


The Base 1 year warranty as mentioned is not Apple Care+. It does not include the benefits of Apple Care+.


You get 2 full Years of Apple Care+ with its full benefits when you buy it.

It is not. You are simply not understanding what the 1 Year Warranty and Apple Care+ are and how they are different.

Your understanding is incorrect. AppleCare is the standard one year plan everyone gets on their iPhone. Buying AppleCare+ plan for two years doesn't mean the plan adds a 3rd year. It means you're covered for two years under AppleCare+, which provides additional benefits from the standard one year AppleCare Plan.

Maybe this be easier to understand. You bought your phone December 15, 2025. Had you purchased AppleCare+ on the date you purchased your phone, your AppleCare+ would then expire on December 14, 2027.


But you bought a two year plan on January 28, 2026. It IS a two year plan, so the date of expiration is correct at January 27, 2028. It has nothing to do with the original date of purchase of the phone. And AppleCare+ is a separate plan from the standard one year AppleCare plan provided with all new iPhone purchases. And it offers additional benefits. But the data of expiration shown is indeed correct.


As Kurtosis12 suggested, you can contact Apple Support, but they are going to confirm what I just told you.
