Apple Home showed “could not add home “My home””

I opened my home app and a message pop up: could not add home “My home”

I totally got stuck and I cannot use the app any more. I experience this across all my apple devices. May I know any of you have the similar issue?

iPhone 17 Pro, iOS 26

Hello, I had the same issue on an iPhone 16 pro on iOS 26.3 after reinstalling the home app, which I had previously deleted. Try these steps, which worked for me

  1. Sign out of iCloud on your iPhone. You do not need to erase your data. Make sure you know your password!
  2. Restart your iPhone
  3. Open the home app. It will prompt you to sign in to iCloud
  4. Sign in to iCloud on your iPhone
  5. Open the home app and continue. I was able to get past this screen!

I moved into a place with a smart lock that's been working with the app and the associated built-in doorbell for months now.

One time a few weeks ago the lock app tells me "You need to update your Apple Home."

I don't use Apple Home. I don't have any Apple Home stuff, I think.

So I go and I get this Apple Home app, and I get the exact issue outlined in this post.

In the smart lock's smart app I can hit "Cancel" instead of "Update" and it goes away, but I have to do that every time I open the app and it's annoying.

What's going on here, Guys? What can I do to make this go away? Do I buy an Apple Home thing and assign it to dust collection in a closet?
