Is iPhone 16 battery health at 92% after 260 cycles normal?

my iphone16 battery dropped to 92% after 260 cycles , 10 months of use , keeping the maximum charging at 80% , no heating , is it normal behavior?!!

yes — that’s normal behavior. 👍

What you’re seeing with your iPhone 16 battery is well within expectations, even with careful charging habits.

Your stats, broken down

  • Battery health: 92%

  • Charge cycles: ~260

  • Time used: ~10 months

  • Charging limit: 80%

  • No overheating

This lines up with how Apple designs lithium-ion batteries to age.

Why this is normal

  • iPhone batteries are rated to keep ~80% capacity after ~500 full cycles

  • At 260 cycles, a drop of 6–10% is very common

  • Batteries don’t degrade linearly — the first year often shows a quicker drop, then it slows

So:

  • 92% at 260 cycles = ✅ normal

  • Especially normal even with 80% charging (which helps, but doesn’t stop aging)

About the 80% charging limit

You didn’t do anything wrong — it does help:

  • Reduces stress on the battery

  • Slows long-term chemical wear

But it cannot completely prevent:

  • Natural chemical aging

  • Capacity loss over time

Think of it as slowing aging, not freezing it.

When it would NOT be normal

Only be concerned if:

  • It drops below 85% before ~300 cycles

  • You see sudden drops (e.g., 92% → 88% in a month)

  • You get unexpected shutdowns or overheating

You’re not showing any of those signs.

Bottom line

✔ Your battery health is normal

✔ Your charging habits are good

✔ Nothing needs fixing or replacing right now

Battery Health decline is not linear, but on average for every 50 cycles, it would equate to at least a 1% decline in battery health. 260 Cycles divided by 50 = 5.2. Again, since battery health decline isn't linear, you may see your battery health remain relatively stable for a while, then drop again. Since it would seem logical you would have lost about 6% by now, an extra 2% is not cause for concern. The one constant you can count on is battery health will continue to decline and when yours dips to 80% or less (which you're a long way from), it will then be time to pay Apple to replace the battery and the battery health decline starts all over.

Just an FYI that most of us senior members here DON'T use the charging limit. We use Optimized Battery Charging and we plug our phones in to charge when we go to bed at night, leaving them on charger ALL night EVERY night. We wake to a phone at 100%, which is ready for a full day of use, which also backed up to ensure no loss of data should something go wrong.

Here a couple links you should read about Maximizing Battery Performance and when to charge your iPhone:

"Normal" really does not exist. "Not normal"......a battery that has dropped below 80% Maximum Capacity in the first year of use.

Otherwise, Apple states that the battery in the iPhone 16 has been designed to go up to 1,000 Charge Cycles before the battery's Maximum Capacity is down to 80%......under ideal conditions.

That works out to about a 1% decline for every 50 Charge Cycles. Using that measure, your battery would be at about 94-95% after 260 Charge Cycles.

If your phone was at 93% and the battery dropped only .1%......Apple would display this as 92%.....even though the battery was really at 92.9%.

Unfortunately, "ideal conditions" are not defined, so things become more vague in terms of battery life. Your battery at 92% is not bad, so I would not be concerned.

Charge Limits force you to charge the battery more often, which can be more wear and tear on the battery. Most users....including me....get better results by using Optimized Battery Charging and ignoring Charge Limits. Just connect the phone to the power supply at night and leave it connected all night....every night.
