It would be wise to delay your purchase until you have had a chance to evaluate the requirements of your college classes. It's likely that much of the IT coursework will require the use of a PC rather than a Mac and you wouldn't want to buy the wrong tool for the job.
Check-in with the guidance folks and, if possible, the instructor staff at the school you will attend and find out what platform they recommend you use in your studies. With that knowledge in hand you can make the best decision.
