your boot drive Write performance is bad:

Performance:

System Load: 7.25 (1 min ago) 4.96 (5 min ago) 3.71 (15 min ago)

Nominal I/O usage: 30.79 MB/s

File system: 7.12 seconds

Write speed: 779 MB/s

Read speed: 2705 MB/s

typical write speed is somewhat faster than read speed, because of write buffering.

that might be because your boot drive is too full:

500 GB size with only 52 GB FREE is not enough. Best Practice for the boot drive 20 percent completely FREE.

NB> you can not make a measurable improvement by stashing stuff on online sharing services like Google drive or Dropbox. And by the way, BOTH of those appear to be old versions or mis-installed on your computer with a number of unsigned files present for each.

if you want a real improvement, you need more real disk drives connected to your computer.

and by the way, you also need to connect your backup drive more often. Your last disk backup finished just after midnight on the 21 st. Time Machine will keep local snapshots (lists of files to be backed up) on the boot drive until you connect you external backup drive again, stealing a little more of the disk space you are already low on.

A couple of things to note:

  • Free space on your drive is at the absolute minimum.
  • Combination of multiple syncing services (DropBox, OneDrive, Google Drive, Adobe Core Sync) in addition to iCloud often times don't play well together. When one service syncs a file, another sees a change and kicks off another sync operation, and can produce a race condition where files are constantly seen as needing to be synced. This is seen happening with the high CPU usage of those syncing processes.
  • Your write speed of your drive is low. Possibly related to low disk space in combination with the amount of syncing being performed.
  • The Muse software package has been commonly seen on devices experiencing slowness. I don't have any particular reason for this other than anecdotal evidence. Not sure if there is an update that would be helpful. I understand you are heavily invested in Music on this Mac, so some of that may just need to be a necessary evil. That along with Avid and the 33 Audio plug-ins are going to be resource intensive and that is expected, but I still don't think that is the bulk of the problem here.

How to proceed:

  • Free up space on your drive.
  • Pair down your syncing options. Dropbox has a couple of processes seen at ~/Library/LaunchAgents, that are not Signed. That should not be the case and they should be removed. A reinstall of Dropbox may fix that problem.
  • You are going to see the biggest improvement in performance once you get the Write Speed of your drive in the 2000 MB/s range instead of the current 779 MB/s. I suspect the intensive syncing is the cause of that and making sure you have the necessary free space on your drive.

In addition to what the others have mentioned & suggested.....

Run Disk Utility First Aid on the drive, volumes, and hidden Container as described in the following Apple article:

How to repair a Mac storage device with Disk Utility

Even if the First Aid summary says everything is "Ok", click "Show Details" and look through the report to see if any unfixed errors or warnings are shown. Run First Aid until the errors & warning are gone. If they still remain, then you will need to run First Aid while booted into Recovery Mode. If they still remain after several scans in Recovery Mode, then provide the complete First Aid report here so we can examine it to best advise you on how to resolve the file system issues.

Run the third party app DriveDx (free trial period) to check the health of the internal SSD. Post the complete DriveDx text report here using the "Additional Text" icon which looks like a piece of paper on the forum editing toolbar. Unfortunately the SSD health report for these SSDs don't provide much health details, but it never hurts to check just in case it provides a clue.

This appears to be a managed Mac. (Seemingly one with a hidden network. That’s an odd choice.)

Wrote speeds aren’t great, and memory is low, and free storage is low, and part of what looks like Avid Pro Tools is looping.

If a restart doesn’t clear this, then free up some storage space, check for app updates including any available for Avid, then contact Avid support about the looping app. And also check with your own IT organization.
