Computer repeatedly lists location as Alabama or Florida

To expand on MartinR's last sentence, some low-cost internet service providers "rent" capacity from larger providers that can be far outside your physical area. The non-profit where i volunteer originally could only get internet service from a flakey, tower-based wireless provider.

At home with a cable Internet provider, my Macbook Pro said I was in Idaho. Correct answer.

At the non-profit, with no changes in settings, the same computer said I was in New Jersey. 😳 Wrong. Been there thank you—don't need to go back.

After two years of continuous service issues, the non-profit changed to a respected regional provider about 40 miles away. Now locations show accurately.

A test: if you travel away from your local service area, like a hotel in another city that uses a differetn provider, are locations correct? If so, chances are high that your computer is fine but your service provider is either renting capacity or having a bad hair day. Start with them.

Where are you seeing this?

Do you have Location Services enabled?

Do you have Date & Time set to automatically?

Do you have Set Time Zone set to automatically?

Are you using iCloud Private Relay?

If you are using WiFi your location is usually obtained via WiFi positioning which scans all nearby WiFi access points and correlates them with a database of known locations.

If you are connecting to an ISP your location may come from the ISP's server(s). And if you are using a VPN to connect to a "foreign" server that will affect the location too.

Do you have a VPN installed? Are you using iCloud private relay?

Have you been able to confirm that you are not in Alabama or Florida?
