iPhones: Wi-Fi lag, drops, and connection problems

For a little while now I’ve noticed a lag when streaming content on wifi on my iPhone 15 Max.

Videos would start to play then suddenly stop and then start and then stop.

Then my wife noticed the same thing on her iPhone 12 mini.

So we blamed it on our wifi network, or our nest wifi system and/or possibly our router.

But then we both noticed it a hotels we were staying in.

And then coffee shops.

And more.

Everywhere.

When using data on a cellular network, much better response time.

Another mutual issue/symptom is the wifi network would simply drop off and then back on.

Frequently. All day.

I’m not moving around.

Just sitting in a chair or in bed and then the wifi disappears and returns.

Sometimes it refuses to logon to our own wifi

unless we deliberately do the “forget this network” thing and then type our password in.

(Note: sharing password between devices does not solve the problem. We actually have to TYPE the password in)

As far as we can tell, it seems to be isolated to our phones and potentially our iOS.

We have reset our network settings.

We have forced quit the apps.

We have restarted our phones.

Nothing fixes it.

Different phones. Different wifi networks. Same symptoms.

Anyone else experiencing the same thing?

iPhone 15 Pro Max, iOS 26

Perhaps a long shot:

Do you have a 3rd party VPN installed, even if you are not using it? If so, delete the VPN profile in Settings/General/VPN & Device Management/VPN, then restart your device. Don't just turn it off; delete the profile. Updates sometimes "break" VPN, and it needs to be removed. If that fixes it, you can try reinstalling VPN, but probably shouldn't.

And, do you share an Apple ID with your wife? That can cause many problems.
