I've recently started to receive email messages that are blank except for small question marks in squares and lines. It seems they are mostly from institutions. I can read the text on my phone, but I generally do all of my email correspondence from my MacBook Pro. My accounts are both gmail and Cloud with my business address.

Those are fonts that can not be read...
try resetting system fonts and compare your results
