iPad 9th generation keeps disconnecting from Wi-Fi

I bought my husband an iPad 9th generation. Wi-fi, 64gb. He has current iOS 26.1

All of a sudden his device disconnects from the Wi-Fi connection. We cannot figure out why it keeps disconnecting. He has a iPhone SE that does not have an issue. I have an iPad Pro that is running fine as well. Do you have any idea what we should do. I have gone to community help and it appears a few folks have also had this issue. Just to add context we are elderly folks so be gentle!

At the time of writing, iPadOS 26.3 is current. If the iPad is running iPadOS 26.1 as indicated, you should update the iPad to the most recent version. Keep the iPad connected to its Power Adapter while performing the update - as this will help to keep the WiFi connection active during the update process.


If the iPad has a VPN profile/App or other Security App (such as Norton or MacAfee) installed, these should be removed from the iPad and the iPad restarted.


If your iPad is not operating as expected, try a forced-restart - as this will often clear an isolated software issue:


Force restart iPad (models with the Home button)

Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.



Force restart iPad (models with Face ID or with Touch ID in the top button)

If your iPad doesn’t have the Home button, do the following:

  1. Press and quickly release the volume button nearest to the top button.
  2. Press and quickly release the volume button farthest from the top button.
  3. Press and hold the top button.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the top button.





If the problem persists after performing the restart, it may be necessary to reset your iPad settings. While this reset will not cause any loss of data, as a precaution, it is always wise to ensure that you have a current iCloud or iTunes backup before performing the reset:

When you are happy to proceed, you can perform the reset from iPad settings:

Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPad > Reset > Reset All Settings


If the problem still doesn’t clear, the next step is to reset the iPad to factory settings:
