iPhone 17 stop Siri using the POWER button

I have Siri mapped to the action button where it is hardly used. The power button is always being used and I want Siri well away from the power button!

Sometimes the power button starts Siri (more inconsistent hidden long press behaviour?) … this is what I want to prevent.

The Settings for Siri says ‘side’ button but which side?! Turning that off says that Siri is turned off even though Siri is mapped to the action button.

As an aside (or maybe not with this os) when I asked Siri this question, the response was that it could not do web searches … I need to change some settings … without saying what settings … and with the somewhat incomplete response disappearing soon after! I could not get Siri to keep the display on the screen long enough to action!!!

it reminds me of years ago when I will be using Siri on my phone only to have a HomePod take over the query and tell me that it wasn’t able to do something that my phone was capable of doing… Has nothing changed?

Final gripe. Topics in the option below I can see macOS but not Siri or iOS and no Apple integrity either. Is there a better community topic system?

Hi, technically speaking, there is no button named power button. The correct name for the “power button” is Side button. When disable Siri on the Side button, I can still activate Siri via typing or say “Siri or Hey Siri.”

Have you tried disabling the Side button? If so, what happens in regard to Siri?

Technically speaking … if a button turns it off and on the i call it a power button … not whatever marketing bs comes out of California. (I just re-read that … saw my anger and realised the sea-change in attitude towards Apple that I have had over the last 3 years, given that I started working with 2e many decades ago, starting with ai (not i for integrity) and moving to the mess that is using ‘26 on a phone).

my question relates to the power button launching siri, not the action button.. I cannot understand why that should ever happen, but so much seems to happen … constant camera app crashes, regular map shutdowns, even swiping up fails more often that not, as if they had moved the swipe hotspot, the display not functioning consistently, missing UI cues, no documentation … but most of all i want siri to be dead on my phone unless i press the action button, just like I can with my watch crown. Even the action button seems broken, many obvious options are missing …
