Critical Battery Drain on iPhone 14 Pro - iOS 26.3 (Build 23D127)


Hello,

I am reporting a severe battery drain issue on my iPhone 14 Pro following the update to iOS 26.3 (Build 23D127). Before this update, the device consistently lasted 2 days on a single charge; now it fails to last a full day. My paired Apple Watch is experiencing an identical rapid drain.


Battery Usage Observations:

  • Safari: Consuming 24% of battery with only 12 minutes of on-screen activity.
  • Home & Lock Screen: Consuming 15% with only 7 minutes of activity.
  • High background activity is present even when the device is idle.


Troubleshooting steps already taken:

  • Force restart of both iPhone and Apple Watch.
  • Enabling Airplane Mode on Apple Watch (no improvement).
  • Disabling Handoff and background app refresh.

Update: I tested turning off Bluetooth for 3 hours. The drain on both devices slowed down significantly.

  • Watch before (BT ON): 7.5% per hour drain (idle).
  • Watch after (BT OFF): 2.5% per hour drain.
  • This confirms a Bluetooth Communication Loop / Handshake bug in build 23D127. It’s not a hardware issue, but a faulty data sync protocol between the iPhone and the Watch in this version of iOS 26.

Update: I tested turning off Bluetooth for 3 hours. The drain on both devices slowed down significantly.

  • Watch before (BT ON): 7.5% per hour drain (idle).
  • Watch after (BT OFF): 2.5% per hour drain.
  • This confirms a Bluetooth Communication Loop / Handshake bug in build 23D127. It’s not a hardware issue, but a faulty data sync protocol between the iPhone and the Watch in this version of iOS 26.

I wanted to share the final solution for anyone facing the same issue. After a long investigation, the problem is finally resolved.

The Solution Path:

  1. Reinstall via Mac: Following Apple Support’s advice, I performed a full system re-installation of the latest build (23D127) using my Mac mini (Command ⌘ + 'Check for Update' method). Note: This step alone did not fix the drain immediately.
  2. Diagnosis: Through systematic testing, I discovered that turning off Bluetooth stopped the drain completely on both devices. This proved it was a communication loop bug, not a hardware failure.
  3. The Final Fix: After the clean OS install, I performed a 'Reset Network Settings'. This finally broke the loop and stabilized the battery life.


How to perform the final fix:

Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings.

(Note: You will need to re-enter Wi-Fi passwords and re-pair Bluetooth devices).

I hope this helps others avoid unnecessary battery replacements!

I'm not sure who you think you're reporting this too, but if you thought to Apple Support, you're not. This is a user to user only forum, which Apple doesn't participate.


While you mention the iPhone model you own, you don't mention the Apple Watch model? What you've described could be aging batteries. iPhone 14 Pro was released in 2022, nearly 4 years ago. iPhone batteries don't last forever and if you check Settings > Battery > Battery Health - If the percentage is 80% or lower, the useful life of the battery has been spent and it would be time to pay Apple to replace the battery in your phone.


The same would be true for Apple Watch as they too don't have a forever battery.

to clarify the hardware situation: My iPhone 14 Pro has 84% battery health and my Apple Watch has 96% battery health.

While the iPhone is no longer new, it consistently provided 2 full days of battery life until the very moment I installed build 23D127. The Apple Watch, with its nearly perfect 96% health, also started draining instantly.

Hardware does not degrade by 50% in a single night across two different devices simultaneously. This is a textbook example of a software regression. As I mentioned, the battery stats show Safari (24% for 12m) and Home Screen (15% for 7m) as the main culprits. These are active process drains, not capacity issues.

I posted here specifically to find out if other users with the 14 Pro model are seeing this specific behavior on 23D127. If anyone else is seeing these Safari/Home Screen spikes, please share your experience so we can confirm if this is a widespread bug in this mutation."

My wife and I experience the same thing. She on 13 Pro and me on 16.


She also had a series 7 watch that suddenly would drain even faster, thinking it was just age we bought her a new series 11. She’s had it about a week now and it still loses about 60% of the battery over night when sleeping with it. That’s 60% with no screen on and no notifications, just the normal sleep tracking.

Sleep tracking needs a rigid recharge discipline. Just before bed, then between rising and the rest of the day.

No time (the main reason for a watch) is available whilst charging. You need to ask yourself if sleep tracking is necessary. What if the sleep pattern is abnormal, what can she do? What is abnormal? So what if it is? Most world leaders get by on 5 hours sleep a night.


Just saying that there is a lot to be said for charging overnight, every night all night, with the watch in Night Stand/bedside mode, normal alarm function, and sleeping better for not worrying about pointless measurements and dodgy alarms..
