Messages going to an iPad instead of an iPhone means the iPad is set as the active iMessage device and the iPhone isn’t registered correctly.

1. On the iPhone: open Settings ➡️ Apps ➡️ Messages ➡️ turn iMessage OFF, wait 10 seconds, turn it ON.

2. Stay in Settings ➡️ Apps ➡️ Messages ➡️ Send & Receive ➡️ make sure your phone number is checked.

3. On the iPad: open Settings ➡️ Apps ➡️ Messages ➡️ Send & Receive ➡️ uncheck your phone number so messages stop routing there.

4. On the iPhone: open Settings ➡️ Apps ➡️ Messages ➡️ turn Text Message Forwarding ON only if you want the iPad to receive copies.

5. Restart both devices to reload iMessage registration.

This forces the iPhone to become the primary messaging device again.
