Feature suggestion: Hiding individual items as `hiddden` property instead of 'hidden' album, allowing them to be accessible via other albums / people / media type.

Are you asking about Photos for Mac or Photos on an iPad or iPhone?
In the earlier versions of Photos it has been exactly as you are requesting. The photos were just hidden from the library view (all photos, month, etc.), but not from the albums. It has been very convenient. But many users complained and wanted a hiding feature to keep the photos completely secret, and now Apple is hiding the photos everywhere and even protecting the hidden album with a password.
In Photos for Mac we can still make the hidden photos visible in albums by using a smart album. Hidden Photos are visible in any smart albums with the rule "Photo is hidden".
You could combine the hidden rule with a data range rule or media kind rule, for example.
