Pairing my new hearing aids with my MacBook

I had been using my old hearing aids with my MacBook for some time. They were paired via: Accessibility>Hearing Devices. They failed, and I had to replace them with new hearing aids, which are exactly like the old ones, just different serial numbers. Since the serial numbers didn't match, I had to unpair the old pair, then pair the new ones. I tried, but they won't pair. The little searching wheel just goes round and round. I even tried to pair them with Bluetooth. Again, it failed. What am I doing wrong?

The app that runs the TV streamer is on my iPhone. I did a new phone update, and everything is now working fine, my Jabra streamer for the TV, phone calls going to the hearing aids, plus the sound on my MacBook Air! Everything is really fine now. Thanks for all your help. Your suggestions helped me to run down the whole system, and it was just a matter of toggling all the little things. So appreciate your help!

They are Jabra and, yes, MFI. I have an iPhone (and the hearing aids work nicely with it, and also my Apple TV). So I took your advice and put them in the Charger, then opened Accessibility>Hearing Devices. then took them out of the charger, and they showed up. I hit connect, and they started to connect, but then dropped. I did it a couple more times, but they wouldn't stay connected. When I paired my other hearing aids last year (same brand and model), it was before we went to iOS 26. Could that be the problem?

No reported pervasive issues have been reported due to MacOS 26.

I don't have an Apple-TV, but I am a little surprised you can pair your hearing Aids with your Apple-TV without un-pairing from your phone.

If both are active, how do your hearing Aids decide which sounds to send you?

"The old way" to add a second device was to send TV or computer Audio through a TV Streamer device, which showed up in your hearing Aids App as a separate program (like Regular, hear-in-noise, Outdoors, Music) and you could select the streamer sound separately.

It's easy, I have a special audio streamer that I purchased when I got the hearing aids. I activate it with an app on my iPhone. I can stream the audio from the TV while streaming. The app is highly adjustable. With the mac I can use the same adjustment on my Mac settings as I have on my phone to pair them. through MFI. And I switch from one to the other by Sound setting in the top bar on the Mac or on my phone. I don't know why the Mac won't pair this pair. I thought maybe it's an OS 26 issure but possibly it's something else. I will check with the Jabra support. Their hearing aids work best with Apple devices, and they know them well, so maybe they can tell me what I'm doing wrong. Thanks!

My daily Mac is very old, and its Bluetooth will never be able to pair with my Hearing Aids. Most Mac users face Un-Pairing their iPhone to get sound from their Mac.

For TV use, I ran an optical cable from the TV set to a Resound TV Streamer-2 device, and when it is receiving sound, it lights up and makes an additional program become available in my hearing aids app, Resound Smart 3D.

(about actual size)

What is the name of your special streamer, and is it hardware, or software, or both?

My Jabra TV steamer looks similar to that, but it's all wireless. Luckily, my MacBook Air is only 2 years old and it's really a wonderful Mac. I've had many, many Macs and Apple computers going back to Greenscreen days. I've had several MacBook Pros, and yet this little MacBook Air is the fastest, nicest Mac I've ever owned, yet it was one of the least expensive. It's great. I'm sure I will eventually get my hearing aids to work with it. What brand of hearing aids do you have? These Jabra work very well with Apple devices.

I currently have Resound Linx Quadro. They may be the first Resound with Lithium batteries and advanced audio processor. The device fits behind my ear but is called 'Receiver in Ear' which has a tiny wire to the electronic 'Receiver' that I always just want to call a Speaker.

This seems to be to distinguish from 'Behind the Ear' which implies a sound tube and no active device in the ear, rather that a sound wire.

I have just arranged to switch up to the newest Resound model, Vivia, But those have not arrived yet. Vivia model has a filter over the microphone inlet, which should help keep it from clogging with woodworking dust. It is also said to have an advanced AI assisted "Hear in Noise" function.

Before I had these Jabra aids, I was using Oticon hearing aids from Denmark. !5 years ago, when I first needed hearing aids, there were no good ones made in the US. I went to a brick-and-mortar audiology clinic, and all their hearing aids were made in Northern Europe. They ran between $5 Kand $7K with my insurance covering only a small part of that. I find these Jabra at under $2K with remote audiologist to be much better, and I like the online service to be so much better.

AI assists says:

Jabra hearing aids are made by Jabra, which is a brand owned by GN Group, a Danish company known for its expertise in audio solutions. GN Group has over 150 years of experience in the hearing aid industry.

...and GN owns Resound.

Resound brand only seem to be dispensed by high-touch (and high-priced) direct audiologists. My family needs that high-touch for their very unusual hearing loss.

The hearing aids business WAS changing rapidly, and lower cost and over the counter hearing aids were forcing some strong distribution changes.

Then Apple introduced their AirPods hearing aid feature, and now everything is up in the air.

this is the setup when the GN Resound TV streamer 2 pictured above is connected to my hearing aids.

Note that the hearing aid App, GN Resound Smart-3D) considers the phone as connected (over Bluetooth) to the Hearing Aids, but when I switch programs to use the TV streamer, the Streamer in an Alternate connection DIRECT to the hearing Aids, NOT through the phone.

Normally, this is not possible (because one connection at a a time), but when you tell the App that's what you want connected, it can tell the hearing Aids to substitute TV streamer connection and sound for iPhone audio connection and sound.

if you have an Apple Watch, it is shown as a peripheral of the iPhone, with no direct connection to the hearing aids at all.

I think it's all in the app. Pretty clever. I could be streaming video to my TV and listening through the Jabra TV adapter, and if a phone call comes in, it cuts off the TV sound in my hearing aids and automatically picks up the phone. And even if I'm on my MacBook, with the sound going through my hearing aids, if I get a call, it cuts off the MacBook sound and sends the phone sound to my hearing aids. Really great to hear everything again!
