I can see white cloudy patches appearing on my iPad Air (5th gen). How can it be resolved. Is it a common issue with this model?

Can you post a photo (not a screenshot) of your iPad screen - as this will clarify what you see.
It is possible that you are seeing inconsistencies in the screen backlight diffuser - potentially caused by partial delamination of the diffuser layer. Defects of this type are characterised by bright or darker patches when evenly illuminated. If the inconsistencies are an issue, the only remedy is replacement of the iPad screen assembly.
Be aware that the screen is the single most expensive component of your iPad. If within the one-year manufacturer's warranty, your iPad should be eligible for an in-warranty repair. Unless you have benefit of an active AppleCare+ plan, an out of warranty repair will be expensive:

If this is the issue, you would be best advised to visit the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) - where the technicians will be able to assess your iPad. If a fault or other defect is confirmed, you will be in the best possible place to explore your available options:

Troubleshooting
You can easily determine if you have a screen hardware issue. A reliable method to confirm a screen or other hardware fault is to take a screenshot when the fault is evident - and then review the captured screenshot image...
When reviewed, if the patches are not present in the screenshot image, then you have demonstrated that you have a screen hardware fault. If the patches are visible in the screenshot, the something other than hardware will be the cause.
Note: You may need to view the screenshot on a different device/screen. If reviewing the image on the affected iPad, rotating iPad screen orientation by 90°, from Portrait to Landscape, will ensure that the image does not coincide with screen defects if present. Unlike the viewed image, screen inconsistencies won't rotate.
