Worst battery backup after 26.5.2 update.

I have been using an iPhone 15 (256 GB), and ever since updating to iOS 26.5.2, the battery performance has noticeably deteriorated. The battery drains much faster than it did before the update, even though my battery health remains at 88%.

There can be many reasons why a battery drains faster after an update. Apple even addresses this in this link --> If the battery in your iPhone or iPad drains too quickly - Apple Support. It is expected for the first few days after an iOS update, your battery will drain faster as it has to reindex the millions upon millions of bytes of data on your phone. This can last 4 or more days.

At 88% battery health, your battery is not too far from needing to be replaced. When the health of your battery dips to 80%, you'll see a notification that battery service is needed and you're not far from that date and it will then be time to pay Apple to replace the battery in your iPhone.

Social media apps, such as those from Meta (Facebook/Instagram/WhatsApp) are notorious for chewing through an iPhone battery. Meta has to release updates multiple times a week to fix bugs they create. Personally, I force close these apps after use because of this.

If you want to see what is using the battery the most on your iPhone, open Settings > Battery and wait for the apps use to populate. I wouldn't be surprised to see the social media apps are consuming a lot of your battery. Only Apple doesn't own these apps.

Finally, after every iOS update, the first thing I do is Force Restart my iPhone and I never have battery drain after an update. Do this and keep the directions handy for the future --> Force restart iPhone - Apple Support

Same here with 26.5.2 on iPhone 17 Pro (European regular SIM card small battery model). Have to charge twice daily after the update instead of every other day. Battery usage doesn’t show anything suspicious except once it showed Home app using a lot. Other than that it’s been the apps I’ve actually used but that usage doesn’t explain why the phone would use 3x more battery in the background than before.

> You phone should be on the charger all night

I can charge my phone however I want to 🙄

> Background processes are scheduled to run overnight while you are not using your device

I think you're underestimating background processes. By that logic, night-shift workers would never see them 🙃

> Your phone is supposed to charge to 100% periodically to maintain accurate charge estimates.

I positively understand this mechanism. What I'm saying is now it's happening every day or every two days whether it used to happen once a month.

> It is not time for a battery replacement yet, but you are getting close when it will drop below 80% and need replacing. Your phone is expected to last 1000 charge cycles before that happens under normal use. With it being 87%, your capacity is already reduced by that amount and then when you add a Charge Limit of 85%, it will reduce your daily usage even further, so I could see where you are having to charge it during the day.

You're implying that I'm not able to judge if I lose more battery overnight. I've been living with that 87% battery for literal months. It only started being a problem after 26.5.2. I trust my own judgement on those kind of things. Also: tell that to the iPhone Air user who reported similar problems while on 100% battery health.

Hello~ My iPhone stayed on 95% for a year. Of course I knew that was incorrect because I check it elsewhere. Things happen. I will tell you something that is a hard fact though…you’re being assisted by some of the top volunteers in this entire forum. That in and of itself deserves a thank you and your appreciation at the very least. We all try our best to assist each other here.

I'm having the same problem. I have an iPhone 16 pro, capacity is at 99%. It used to last me nearly all day on 80% max charge. Now I'm lucky to get just over 1/2 day. I bumped my max cap from 80 to 85 just so my phone would last. This update is clearly creating issues and so far, nothing from apple. I've been updated since it dropped so I'm well past any of the "takes time to be stable". Not happy with this update. Apple should provide a way to roll back when user's have issues, this is a poor user experience.

worst update, the previous one before that update was fine . Then when I installed that my Apple Music started to crash, the repeat button is not working and sometimes the volume won't work even the music is playing . Next is the Google Chrome browser or even the Google engine, when I type and I want to edit or delete a single letter the x button won't work, even the microphone or camera . so I had to use the delete on my keyboard, so many issues. sucks, wost in the worst . that was you guys did before. always crashing things

The update is not your problem, you have unique problem with your computer and/or the apps installed on it that are causing a conflict. It is the app developers responsibility to update their apps to the latest OS version for the device supported. It has always been that way and always will be in the future, that is even true for Windows and other platforms.

  • For the issue with Chrome, contact Google, that is not an Apple product. You would need to be using Safari if you want to complain to Apple about their web browser.
  • For the issue with Apple Music crashing, that is from some third party software you had installed on your computer that is not compatible. We can help identify what that software is and also get more information about the crash, but you would need to post the free EtreCheck report using the Additional Text option when posting. The report contains no personal information.

How to use the Add Text Feature When Post… - Apple Community

  • This update was released a month ago, so if the update was the problem on your computer, then you would see thousands of posts stating the same thing in the Mac forum, and that is not the case.
  • Don't forget to create a new post in the appropriate Mac forum, as this iPhone forum is not relevant to your issues at all. After posting in the Mac forum, then provide the EtreCheck report and you are likely to find a resolution. When providing details on the issue, don't forget that screenshots are always helpful to visualize what you are seeing as long as they don't include any personal information.

Agree 100%. I'm using an old Iphone 13, and the battery lasts half after the update to Ios 26.5.2

I would want to go back, don't care at all about the improvements if I can't use my phone for 12 hours.

Now it barely last 5 or 6. Nothing different just updated the Ios. And my immediate reaction was to buy a new iphone ... Now I'm not going to settle until I get my iphone to work as good as before the update

And what is the Battery Health percentage on your battery? If it I s below 80%, it is irrelevant which iOS version you are using. I wouldn't recommend to perform any update on a failing battery as a CPU intensive task is going to further weaken it, Failing to service your phone is not the fault of the iOS update in that case. It would be very unusual for an iPhone 13, where the battery was only expected to last for 500 charge cycles, to still be operating efficiently on its original battery.
