iOS 27 CarPlay not working after update on 2 different iPhones, that worked perfectly before the update.

On September 14, 2026 after ios 27 update, my Apple CarPlay does not work with my iPhone pro max. I have tried all suggestions so far. They do nothing. Our car has been working fine for wife’s 17 pro and my 13 pro max.Is there a software bug that needs a fix?

Update…sort of. I got it to connect. It only works the first time I plug it in. If I disconnect and try to connect again it will no longer recognize my phone. My work around to that is if I restart my multimedia display and plug my phone back in, it works. Stupid workaround but, it’s all I got for now until they release an iOS update that fixes CarPlay compatibility.

Not everyone has CarPlay issues when using Apple iOS 27.2. We mostly hear from those who do, of course.

Wondering whether there may be a firmware update available for the stereo / infotainment system in your vehicle, so the system remains compatible with the newest software on your iPhone. (The vehicle's manual, or the manufacturer's support website may have info. on firmware updates.)

Re: Apple, let’s get your act together

As we are all Apple customers, just as you are, in this community, Apple is not here, and is unlikely to see your post to us here.

Seems you suspect a bug or glitch in Apple's software:

Apple does provide a feedback website, used for bug-reports and more.

All feedback is carefully read and logged. If others have a similar issue which Apple is responsible for, and if Apple receives enough feedback on which vehicle and iPhone models and software versions are affected, there may be an update that addresses those issues.

Thanks for your suggestions.

I have actually wondered about the firmware of the car’s infotainment system as well. However, my car is a 2018 Mercedes A-Class (W176), so I’m not sure whether Mercedes still provides firmware updates for an infotainment system of this age.

What makes me question whether the car’s firmware is the issue is that CarPlay worked perfectly before I upgraded to the iPhone 17 Pro Max. I also have two older iPhones, both running iOS 27, and neither of them has any CarPlay issues with the same car.

This makes me suspect that the problem could be related specifically to the iPhone 17 Pro Max, rather than iOS 27 itself or the car’s infotainment system.

I will certainly look into possible firmware updates, but I think Apple should also investigate potential compatibility issues with the iPhone 17 Pro Max.

I’ll submit feedback directly to Apple as well. Hopefully, enough reports will eventually get their attention.

This happened to both myself and my husband following the most recent ios27.2 update. The most notable CarPlay issue was that any streaming service (Music, Audible, Podcasts) would play for about one second at a time before pausing again. I finally was able to correct the issue by disabling the Siri Attention Awareness feature and then turning it back on.

Disable Siri Attention Awareness:Go to Settings > Face ID & Passcode and toggle off Attention Aware Features. A glitch can cause the phone to think you are looking away or prompting Siri, immediately pausing your active media.

Thank you kindly for checking those suggestions, for your thoughtful reply, and for sending feedback to Apple.

From their webpage: https://www.mercedes-benz.co.uk/passengercars/technology/over-the-air-updates.html

seems Mercedes do "over-the-air" software updates, yet permissions for them must be given regularly for them to download.

Eg: says:

"You can manage your vehicle’s Over-the-Air (OTA) settings in your MBUX infotainment system. You can enable or deactivate automatic updates and downloads".

NB: Couldn't find info. specific to your particular vehicle model there though.

Re: "CarPlay worked perfectly before I upgraded to the iPhone 17 Pro Max"

FWIW: There may be quite a difference in the iOS software on the iPhone 17 Pro Max, as it is compatible with Siri AI. It's possible a firmware update may be needed for CarPlay to run smoothly with that newer technology.

ie: iOS 27 on iPhone models before 15 Pro models, iPhone 16 models or later, and iPhone Air, is not compatible with Siri AI, so it will not be available on the earlier models.

Hi everyone,

I recently updated my brand-new iPhone 18 Pro to iOS 27.2, and immediately after the update, I started experiencing an issue with Apple CarPlay.

CarPlay was working perfectly fine before the update. However, after updating to iOS 27.2, the CarPlay display in my car remains completely blank.

Here are the details of the issue:

  • Device: iPhone 18 Pro
  • iOS Version: 27.2
  • Car: Skoda Octavia A8 (2021)
  • Connection: Wireless CarPlay

What happens:

  • My iPhone successfully connects and pairs with the car.
  • I can receive calls through CarPlay, and the audio functionality works.
  • However, the CarPlay interface does not appear on the infotainment screen. The display remains completely blank.

Troubleshooting already attempted:

  • Forgot the car from iPhone's CarPlay settings and paired it again.
  • Reconnected the device multiple times.
  • Tried restarting and reconnecting.

Unfortunately, the issue persists.

Has anyone else experienced this issue after updating to iOS 27.2? Is this a known software bug, or is there any workaround to restore the CarPlay display?

Since everything was working perfectly before the update, I strongly suspect this is related to the latest iOS update.

Would appreciate any suggestions or help from the Apple Support Community.

Thank you!

I wonder if this issue could be related to the new hardware and communication architecture introduced with the iPhone 17 and newer series, particularly Apple’s new N1 wireless chip.

There are growing reports of similar CarPlay issues across different car manufacturers, suggesting this may not be a Mercedes-specific problem.

In my case, the graphical glitches occur with both wired and wireless CarPlay, using multiple cables and adapters. Older iPhones work perfectly in the exact same vehicle. Even updating to iOS 27.2 has made no difference.

Could there be a compatibility issue involving the iPhone 17’s new hardware, iOS drivers or CarPlay’s communication and display handling?

I believe Apple should investigate this beyond individual car manufacturers, as the problem appears to affect multiple vehicle brands and infotainment systems.
