Give this a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE 1: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

NOTE 2: if you have a wireless keyboard with rechargeable batteries connect it with its charging cable before booting into Safe Mode. This makes it act as a wired keyboard as will insure a successful boot into Safe Mode.

Besides what @OldToad has pointed out, you seem to be using a Nightly version of Firefox. Nightly versions of any app are likely to be buggy.

Also, uninstall your VPN software as that can easily cause problems as well. VPNs don't provide the privacy or security you think they do unless they are used to connect to a school or employer's network.....even then, they will supply the VPN software to use with their VPN appliance and not some off the shelf app.

Your system load was high while the EtreCheck report was being generated, but I'm not sure what may be the cause if these anti-virus & VPN software (DuckDuckGo & Wireguard and the "hide.me.app") are not the cause. Try uninstalling the SpeedTestHelper app as well. Follow the developers' instructions for each of these apps. Just deleting them is not sufficient. The "hide.me.app" seems very suspicious to me.

You also seem to still have Flip4Mac audio plugin installed. You should remove that piece of very old & outdated software as it was installed in 2014.

Are your issues just with the web browser access or also with the Apple Mail app or even the Thunderbird email software you have installed?

Please download and run Etrecheck.  The free version is sufficient. However, if you find it worthwhile you should support the developer and purchase the app.

Copy and paste the results into your reply. Etrecheck is a diagnostic tool that was developed by one of the most respected users here in the ASC to provide a snapshot of the system and help identify the more obvious culprits that can adversely affect a Mac's performance.

Copy the report

and after clicking on the Reply button use the Additional Text button to paste the report in your reply.

Then we can examine the report and see if we can determine the cause of the problem.

There are no viruses that affect macOS, there are no concerns with opening an email message on Macs, nor have there ever have been. That's a Windows concern.

Go ahead and open the email. Just don't click any links in an email message, although that's not a concern either. The concern is that the links may not be what they appear to be, and they may load a fake web page made to look authentic. Even that isn't a concern. Just don't provide any personal information. Always navigate to legitimate websites on your own. Don't use Google.

Please fix this asap.

FYI you are not addressing Apple on this website. Apple can't fix Yahoo Mail anyway.

On that subject I suggest acting upon the instructions provided to you in your other post: Safari not working bookmarks Golden Gate. Those VPNs need to go.

First, there is no reason to ever install or run any 3rd party "cleaning", "optimizing", "speed-up", anti-virus, VPN or security apps on your Mac.  This documents describe what you need to know and do in order to protect your Mac: Effective defenses against malware and other threats - Apple Community and Recognize and avoid phishing messages, phony support calls, and other scams - Apple Support.

There are no known viruses, i.e. self propagating, for Macs.  There are, however, adware and malware which require the user to install although unwittingly most of the time thru sneaky links, etc.

Anti Virus developers try to group all types as viruses into their ad campaigns of fear.  They do a poor job of the detecting and isolating the adware and malware.  Since there are no viruses these apps use up a lot of system resources searching for what is non-existent and adversely affect system and app performance.

There is one app, Malwarebytes, which was developed by a long time contributor to these forums and a highly respected member of the computer security community, that is designed solely to seek out adware and known malware and remove it.  The free version is more than adequate for most users.

Unless you're using a true VPN tunnel, such as between you and your employer's, school's or bank's servers, they provide false security from a privacy standpoint.  Read these two articles: Public VPN's are anything but private and Security Risks: The Dangers of Using Free VPNs (eccu.edu).

Additionally, a new study ("Apple Offers Apps With Ties to Chinese Military”) is specifically about VPN apps in Apple’s App Store.

That being said I recommend you remove all DuckDuckGo software according to the developer' instructions.

If you want to use the DuckDuckGo search engine you can enable it in Safari's Settings ➙ Search window:

To make sure you've removed all of the supporting files for DuckDuckGo use the shareware Find Any File to help in removing leftover components of apps that have been deleted.  Do the following search:

1 - Name contains DuckDuckGo

Any files that are found can be dragged from the search results window to the Desktop or Trash bin in the Dock for deletion.

FAF can search areas that Spotlight can't like invisible folders, system folders and packages.

All those VPNs and "hide me" things remain present.

Several helpers already pointed out the need for them to go, both in this Discussion and the other one you posted, along with numerous references justifying those recommendations. Of course you can continue to use those things — it's your Mac — but if you do choose to install them you have to accept the fact things may not work as they should.

Macs work best when you simply let them work as Apple designed them to work. If you are concerned about privacy, Safari already provides robust privacy features. If you want more you can always use iCloud Private Relay, but even Apple says if a website doesn't work as expected it's one of the first things you should consider disabling:

About iCloud Private Relay - Apple Support

If Safari doesn't work as expected on Mac - Apple Support also states:

"Certain network settings, such as custom proxy settings or custom DNS settings, can affect access to content on the internet. Even if you haven't changed these or other network settings yourself, you might have installed software that changed them for you."

That software includes the VPNs and "hide me" things that you installed. Reverting those changes may require more than merely uninstalling that software. "Turning it off" or disabling it is almost certainly insufficient.

You have quite a bit of work ahead of you.
