Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply
ask a new question.
How can I get all the colored icons back in iTunes? The new UI looks like it came from a 1940's film or something. It's awful. I want my colors back! How can I do that?
Completely agree! The new iTunes is a mess. The all grey is awful, especially in the preferences. If I wanted it to look like that, I'd just turn on greyscale in the System Prefs. It's just so boring and uninteresting to the eyes. 😟
The vertical close/minimize buttons are really confusing and inconsistent with the rest of mac os x, and the ticks next to each song seem to stand out in a bad way which they didn't do before.
Also, really not overly keen on the new icon. I'm sure it will grow on me as I get used to it, but the blue colour used doesn't fit with the blue apple uses everywhere else on their icons, and just to me looks like something you'd find sitting on a Windows PC.
I've got it! I see what they've done now. They've sucked all the colour saturation out of the rest of the interface and thrown it at the icon!
To be honest, the dock icon doesn't bother me (the fact that the installer relaunched the Dock
does though!). It looks a lot better on my small screen than it did during the presentation when Steve Jobs unveiled it.
That pretty much sums it up. What a travesty. It has the feel of a Windows program (of all things). Good grief!
Aside from being ugly, the interface changes make using the program demonstrably more difficult. For example:
- the icon (bottom right) to select an airport express (etc.) is deceptive, in that you'd never guess that clicking on it would bring up a list of choices
- the colored icons (now removed) for playlists, smart playlists and folders all served a purpose—aiding differentiation
- the new icon for playlist feels like something in need to "read" every time I look at it.
- the icons in the lower left look like "indicators," not like click-able buttons
Could the previous interface have used some tweaking? Sure... why not? But this?! No way. How these things—and that insanely horrid logo—got past the top brass at Apple is beyond me. I will not be "upgrading" to this version unless/until these interface issues are addressed.
Apple really messed this up, in my opinion, and I say that as a devotee to the brand (Mac Pro, iMac for everyone in my family, iPhones, Airports, iPads, Magic Mouse, Mighty Mouse, and on and on...). I am an iTunes "power-user" in that I use just about every feature of the program—AirTunes, multiple libraries, iPhone, iPod, remote controls, artwork, 5-column browser at the top, scripts, etc. The new version has absolutely nothing useful for me, but I have no shortage of things I'd like to see changed:
- better playlist management (selecting more than one at a time, for example)
- more powerful tag editing features (find and replace, for example)
- clearer, more helpful tools to assist in managing libraries (and associated content)
- better management of duplicate content
- etc.
Here's hoping that the chorus of boos keeps rising and that Apple makes some changes in the next version (I doubt they'll budge on this interface, unfortunately)
Agreed with everyone else in this thread. The color icons should at leaset be an
option. Grey on grey looks like a first-generation Kindle. Don't make us read when you're capable of great icon art.
HELP!!!!! Bring the color back to iTunes! iTunes 10 looks terrible - as does the new logo. Come on Apple, at least make it an option in the preferences or something! Can I downgrade to iTunes 9 please? Also, while you're at it, make Ping go away if I want.
😀
Is that "Bring back the colour, Apple" or "bring back the colour Apple"? If you want the colour Apple back, you're on a hiding to nothing methinks!
Yes, the new look is not only butt-ugly, but has usability implications as well. The use of color in icons allows the user to more quickly locate the item they're looking for and improves navigation.
There's a reason why we don't have all have greyscale monitors.
