iTunes 10 breaks Firefly Media Server / mt-daapd

iTunes 10 does not work with Firefly Media Server / mt-daapd on my local network. iTunes 9.2.1 worked fine. iTunes 10 will fetch the playlists, but will not fetch any media files.

rsp svn-1696
daap svn-169
Mac OS X 10.6.4

It's not the server software, iTunes 9.2.1 still works fine with it on another Mac and Songbird with the daapd client plugin also plays music from the server fine when iTunes 10 on the same Mac will not.

Is there any way to fix this, if not, how do I downgrade back to iTunes 9.2.1 safely? Right now it is refusing to install due to a newer version installed and I don't want to proceed until I know how to do so safely. Thanks.

All NAS will have the same problem as they all use the same mt-daapd software.

I think all supported nas will now use forked-daapd or an other compatible software version.

MaxTorm, This is Andrew the creator of VortexBox. Obviously this is a big problem for all VortexBox users. I rushed a version of forked-daapd into BETA this morning.

http://vortexbox.org/forum/beta/vortexbox-and-itunes-10/

Hopefully we can get this into production soon.

For anybody else that is interested in testing forked-daapd VortexBox is a Fedora based media server Linux distribution. You can download it and test if you want.

I'm running firefly on windows, and i can see the log-

it appears that itunes 10 is trying to fetch metadata that was newly introduced with itunes 10. remember when you upgraded, and it said "updating library" ? i believe it was adding this metadata either to it's library or the individual files itself..

This is what loads when I try to connect to the firefly server via itunes 10:

After many tries to get forged-daapd work this steps worked for me on my home server running ubuntu 9.10

1. add following lines to /etc/apt/sources.list
*deb http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian sid main*
*deb http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian lenny main*

2. (i got an error updating the apt-get sources because of less memory for package library)
so add following line to /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/70debconf
*APT::Cache-Limit 55165824;*

The value is just an example.. at least about double the preset value from the ubuntu system

3. update the apt-get sources
*sudo apt-get update*

4. install forked-daapd from the debian apt-get sources
*sudo apt-get install forked-daapd*

5. (Here a library was not in the correct version) -> update the libcrypt library
*sudo apt-get install libgcrypt11*

Finally this worked for me. Just start the forged-daapd server
*sudo /etc/init.d/forged-daapd start*

Hope this helps some of you

By the way... forged-daapd uses the same port as mt-daapd as default port. If you already have a old dappd version using the same port, you will only get the forged-daapd server listed in iTunes when the old daapd version is stopped or removed from the system.
