iTunes 10 breaks Firefly Media Server / mt-daapd

iTunes 10 does not work with Firefly Media Server / mt-daapd on my local network. iTunes 9.2.1 worked fine. iTunes 10 will fetch the playlists, but will not fetch any media files.

rsp svn-1696
daap svn-169
Mac OS X 10.6.4

It's not the server software, iTunes 9.2.1 still works fine with it on another Mac and Songbird with the daapd client plugin also plays music from the server fine when iTunes 10 on the same Mac will not.

Is there any way to fix this, if not, how do I downgrade back to iTunes 9.2.1 safely? Right now it is refusing to install due to a newer version installed and I don't want to proceed until I know how to do so safely. Thanks.

Thanks, tecknobabble
I patched mt-daapd source of debian squeeze by hand, my japanese mp3 files are saved from crisis.
Now I stay with iTunes10 & mt-daaped.

And I found a bug report attached a patch file posted to debian BTS.
"#596250 mt-daapd: not compatible with iTunes 10"

The patch seem to be based on Deledrius's patch.

And I'm trying to join the test of forked-daapd with my japanese mp3 files.
forked-daapd developing team did my test again with my mp files.
Some of the error I found was fixed with ffmpeg 0.6, but some remain unfortunately.

Thanks every one.

Hi,
I'm working with the developer of forked-daapd and another developer with ARM experience to get forked-daapd running on embedded systems that don't use newer kernels. It's coming.

Like several users of D-Link NAS DNS-323 in this thread, I, too, want to see a published patch/fix. Keep us informed of you progress. Seems I can't generate any interest of the knowledgeable folks on the independent 323 forum. ( http://forum.dsmg600.info/viewforum.php?id=3).

Since mt-daapd/FireFly has to be updated for the iTunes issue, it would be really great if you all could get it to work with Apple TV. (Apple TV requires a 5 digit registration to respond to initial linking.)

TIA.

It appears that everyone agrees that there is an issue yet it remains unfixed I see other OS some users have done some work around is there a work around for Windows 7 other than using Windows Media Player which by the way isn't broken you would think that Fire Fly which is a well known and used service would have been something they tested before releasing. Well I hope they get it fixed I would like to continue to use i Tunes with my Music Library. Thanks

forked-daapd definitely won't compile or operate as is on NAS boxes with older kernels without heavy rewrite of the code.

I'm the sponsor of this project
http://www.freelancer.com/projects/C-Programming-Linux/DAAP-server-modification. html
to get forked-daapd running on all the NAS boxes out there, so once it's done, people will be able to compile it for the individual NAS models. It'll be a few more weeks still, but work is happening.

Can someone post what kernel version is running on the DNS-323 with firmware 1.08?

Also, the AppleTV (classic version) uses a different protocol than AirTunes devices like the Airport Express. ATV uses something called FairPlay, and the pairing process isn't compatible with forked-daapd (I think the ATV encryption keys haven't been reverse engineered either.)

Julien ( http://blog.technologeek.org/category/hacks/forked-daapd ) said that he doesn't have access to an ATV so he couldn't even begin to try to add support for it. If someone want to send him one he might try. His contact info is on his homepage at http://technologeek.org/

Thanks,
G

Unfortunately, I'm not knowledgeable enough to query my system to get the kernel version. Even after searching the two DNS-323 forums and the Wiki, I couldn't find a recent kernel version number. However, the firmware is located here

ftp://ftp.dlink.com/Multimedia/dns323/Firmware/

You might be able to ferret it out of the latest firmware version. I'm sacrificing a chicken for good luck.

I would recommend asking for help with the ATV info and a loaner model at

http://forums.macrumors.com/forumdisplay.php?f=100

I'd also try to get a hold of the author of ATVUSB-creator for insight into the ATV OS inter workings:
https://code.google.com/p/atvusb-creator/

Additionally, there's two forum guys who impress me as knowing a lot about the ATV system: Cave Man and dynaflash. Both participate at MacRumors, Plex and Handbrake forums.

I have two hotrodded ATVs one of which I can return to stock for Julian to use. However, I can't get it to it and him for another month (long story). Keep me informed. You can send me an email from the DNS-323 forum. If you need it sooner, solicit one of the above references for a loaner.

Best of luck to you in your efforts. Alot of us will owe you, Julien, et al, a significant amount of beer. 8-)
