iTunes 10 breaks Firefly Media Server / mt-daapd

iTunes 10 does not work with Firefly Media Server / mt-daapd on my local network. iTunes 9.2.1 worked fine. iTunes 10 will fetch the playlists, but will not fetch any media files.

rsp svn-1696
daap svn-169
Mac OS X 10.6.4

It's not the server software, iTunes 9.2.1 still works fine with it on another Mac and Songbird with the daapd client plugin also plays music from the server fine when iTunes 10 on the same Mac will not.

Is there any way to fix this, if not, how do I downgrade back to iTunes 9.2.1 safely? Right now it is refusing to install due to a newer version installed and I don't want to proceed until I know how to do so safely. Thanks.

Just to confirm that maaarten's patch and instructions work great on Ubuntu Lucid, as long as you make sure you've satisfied mt-daapd's dependencies before you start, of course, and you also need to make sure you have a few dev tools installed first too, namely ubuntu-dev-tools.. I did try forked, but the metadata was totally messed up, so this seems preferable to me. So thanks a lot maaarten!

The Synology forum members report success with iTunes 10.0.1 with both Synology's new OS and on older units w/o updated OS. Nothing on the D-Link NAS forums, yet.

I want to put in my thanks for the good folks who are updating the mt-daapd/FireFly code.

A special hu-rha to the developers of the forked-daapd s/w as we need an modern version to take on new capabilities.

Finally, thanks to Apple for caring to fix the compatibility issue along with bunch of other v10.0 bugs.
