I did this a couple hours ago and there's no sign that anything is syncing. Whereas in the past, in iTunes, under the AppleTV "Device", I had tabs for syncing music, movies, etc. (just like with iPad, iPhone, iPod), there's only the summary tab and the photos tab -- so I can specifically push content to the Classic AppleTV. Every "My..." I select says there's no [photo/movies/music] on my Apple TV. I've set connections to iTunes from three different Macs now, and none of them are syncing or streaming to Apple TV.
Even if they were streaming properly, I would still like to have my content on the AppleTV drive. I don't want to have to have my desktop and laptops on every time I want to watch something on my AppleTV.
I have the same problem. After upgrading to iTunes 10, I can only sync if I'm not trying to copy purchased content. I can't stream purchased content either, just non-purchased content.
If I attempt to sync purchased content, iTunes indicates an error stating "XXXXX was not copies to the Apple TV "Apple TV - Upstairs" because the Apple TV could not contact the iTunes Store to authorize. Please check your Internet connection, or try again later."
The internet connection is fine on the ATV. I can access youtube, etc. w/o any issues. This problem started after the upgrade to iTunes 10. Before that, everything worked fine.
I had the same problem. AppleTV wouldn't show up in iTunes until I added the library, but when I did, it only allowed streaming and not sync.
Reset settings didn't get back the sync. Factory reset did. After that, when it pops up the first time in iTunes you get all the sync tabs (and not just the iPhoto tab, which is apparently the only thing that syncs on the new AppleTV?).
Of course, now my AppleTV will spend the day synching again.
Ok. I seem to have resolved my earlier issue. I reset both ATVs to factory settings, switched off the firewall on my iMac and restarted the wifi router several times. Then brought the iMac back up followed by the wifi connected ATV. this then showed up in the iTunes devices list and I could register it then begin syncing. Then restarted the Ethernet ATV and that too appeared in iTunes.
All good.
Two key points:
1) don't set the firewall...or at least set it to ensure all incoming.
2) restarted the router absolutely.
On my iMac, tv was on iTunes sidebar under devices but with only tabs for Settings & Photos no TV, Movies, Music and thetv Tab/button was missing from preferences.
On Apple TV, went to 'Settings' and selected 'Computers'. Then selected top option to break the link/disconnect from iTunes library. It was greyed out so I wasn't sure I could select it but it did work. Unfortunately this will delete everything, so watch any rentals etc before doing this.
Then clicked on top option again to reconnect tv to iTunes library and the tv tab in iTune preferences was restored.
Hello everyone. I have some solutions to offer. First, my Speadstream router 6520, when set to channel 11, interfered with my remote dooorbell and even my remote to open the garage door! Changing to channel 8 (but you can try any different channel that works best for you), solved that problem completely and prevented 50% of the drops of ATV from iTunes.
The second solution was completely rediculous and I'm surprised Apple didn't suggest it. Go to "System Preferences" and select "Energy Saver". The "Wake for network access" needs to be checked.
Please confirm the effectiveness of this solution with a reply.
I have the same issue. My apple tv worked just fine until my Macbook died and I bought a new one. When I transferred all my files to the new Macbook, I tried to sync all contents on the Apple tv. So iTunes deleted all contents on appletv and started syncing the new files, but half way through it stopped and deleted all (already) transferred files.
The thing is, iTunes sees the Apple tv and I can stream files (movies, tv shows, etc) on the apple tv from my mac.
I have tried practically everything from deauthorising my account on apple tv, factory restore, rebooted my network, tried to repair the apple tv with my mac, stopping the firewall... but nothing!
Hi, when I upgrade to iTune 10, Apple TV is no longer shown under "Preferences" section and it can not be found under "Devices" of "Preferences" too. Because of this, my Windows 7 can not locate Apple TV. For those who can connect ATV with iTune 10, do you see the ATV options under "Devices" of "Preferences"?
I'm in this boat and I didn't know it existed. ATV2 does not show up or sync in iTunes 10. I'm using Win Vista. Now, it works fine! ATV2 sees my library and I can stream all contents in iTunes to my TV, I can also use my iPad to select content to stream to my TV. So, what am I missing? Why isn't ATV2 showing up in iTunes?
