iTunes 10 keeps freezing. Please help.

I downloaded iTunes 10 to my computer the other night. Every time I try to start it up, it freezes about 5 to 10 seconds into it.

It doesn't matter what part of iTunes I try to access. If I go to the store, it freezes. If I go to my music, it freezes. It won't even let me click on Ping, it freezes before I can get to it.

I've uninstalled, reinstalled, but it does nothing.

I really don't know what is going on. My music and whatever else is on an external hard drive, but I have never had issues until I started to use iTunes 10.

Any help? Thanks.

Hi,

Same issue here.

Have to wait two hours+ to use iTunes.

My library is on a networked drive. So it must be the same issue.

Last night I imported two cd's but freezes on the third.

Kind of nice for apple to come back with no reponse.

Does it have to be picked up by the media before apple admit to any problems, like with iphone 4, and fix it.

Cleared the library cache files. Still not resolve the issues.

Can someone from apple respond.

Simon

I am experiencing the same problem with freezes ever since I downloaded itunes 10. I am using it with an external hard drive. I can import 3 CDs (at most) then it freezes and not even Task Manager can shut it down sometimes. Extremely frustrating. I have unloaded and re-loaded itunes 10 several times with no success in fixing the problem. Is there a fix???!!!

I downloaded itunes 10 to rip my music to an external hard drive. It has been a nightmare. Itunes continuously freezes up to the extent that many times Task Manager cannot even shut it down annd I have to power down the computer and re-start it. I tried deleting itunes 10 and installing 9.2 but then a message appears thhat the library.itl cannot be read because it was installed by a later version of itunes. Is there a fix?

I haven't been home long enough to test iTunes on my Mac, but it definitely keeps freezing on my laptop. Sometimes I can go to my music and pick a song, but it stops when the song is over, it doesn't go to the next one like it should. Other times it won't even let me do anything and I have to open the task manager. For some reason it will let me use it when my iPod is plugged in, but this is still pretty frustrating.

I would like to listen to my music, Apple, kthnxbai.

Does it with the iPhone connected as well. I was rearranging apps through iTunes and I had to wait a good minute in between every app I moved for iTunes to unfreeze. Followed by it telling me 22+hours to restore from back up. Now it's trying to Sync and it's just sitting there, looking as useless as ever. Never liked iTunes. Ever. In the history of forever I've always hated this software. More than Corel Printhouse. It has just as many, if not more, issues than the Xbox360. It gives Apple and Microsoft something to have in common. Well, besides the fact anything Cutting Edge they develop is hacked inside of a few weeks of launch by some 19 year old.

I reported a problem with iTunes freezing in iTunes 9, where I had to shut down iTunes with Task Manager after the program would freeze at random.

I'm having the same problem with iTunes 10, and yes, I have part of my music and other media on an external hard drive.

Twice today, iTunes has frozen / crashed during sync of my iPhone. This is not good.

Now I'll have to go in and check that it hasn't "forgotten" which podcasts and so on I have already played and which are new, and re-sync (again!) and hope it doesn't freeze up (again!). This is the third or fourth time today that iTunes has frozen, and the second time it's done so while syncing my iPhone.

That, and I first reported the problem months ago. I didn't know then what was causing the random freezes. It could be the external drive. It could be the phase of the moon or the alignment of the stars on Wednesdays. It could be... -- Actually, I don't much care what it is. I'm worried iTunes is going to damage my internal or external hard drive or my iPhone, or my iTunes media collection, by malfunctioning and freezing up. Sigh.

Hi,

I've had a similar problem using iTunes 10 on Windows Vista 32bit. Trying to delete from my library, and even trying 1 track at a time, as soon as I click Remove, then Move to Recycle Bin, iTunes freezes, and I need to kill it in Task Manager.

However, after reading this thread, and playing about a bit, I found a solution. If I increase the priority of iTunes from Normal to High in Task Manager before I start, and use the keyboard del key to delete tracks and arrow keys/enter to select options in the 2 dialog boxes, it lets me delete ok, and even coped with deleting 50 tracks in 1 go.

Ok this is a different problem (my library is local, after I had problems previously with keeping it on a network store), but thought this might help someone else who stumbles across this thread like I did, and may be relevant to your problem.

Good luck!

Scott

P.S Also have an HP (TouchSmart) running Vista - is this a pattern? 🙂
