Music skips since Itunes 10

I have been noticing an abundant amount of skipping during music playback since the last one or two iTunes updates that came out. I thought I was going crazy or my files were bad. Google'd up this thread... Interestingly enough it seems that enabling the Visualizer seems to stop my skipping. Perhaps the more cpu cycles kicks it into a higher priority.
My iTunes was fine before I upgraded to 10.6 – now it skips every couple of seconds, on absolutely every track. It's infuriating. Enabling the visualiser did nothing for me. Reverting to an earlier version seems like so much hassle that I'd just as soon not use iTunes until the next version comes along.
I had the same problem on iTunes for the Mac, only it propagated to all my audio. Does it only happen on external speakers, USB speakers, or all speakers? Does it happen for all volume levels? If exteernal, have you tried unplugging and replugging the speaker cable?
I was having this problem (iTunes 10.6.3.25 on Win XP Pro SP3) and I changed the audio playback mode in QuickTime (7.7.2) to "Safe Mode (waveOut Only)" (Audio tab).
So far, the problem has not reappeared, but it's too early to tell.
Hope this helps.

I also have this problem on all my audio apps.
It's driving me insane
Apples silence on this matter says alot about what they don't know
And it isn't a Windows problem... Why is this listed under Windows... this is a iTunes problem!!
I have an iMac and it isn't working either!!! Have the same problem since updating to 10.6
It's driving me crazy!!!
Has anyone been able to solve this issue? It's definitely Itunes. Didn't happen until I upgraded to 10....I can play my music in media player without any issues. I've tried their "clean install"...removing quicktime and installing the stand alone app...nothing is working and I can no longer listen to my music and surf.....******* ME OFF!!!
I have been having issues when playing songs in itunes. The song will be playing fine then all of a sudden the audio will stop for a less then 1 or 2 seconds and then come back on. I am using the headphone jack that is plugged into the speakers. Does anyone know why this is happening. Please help.
I have had this problem on both windows and Mac machines and have discovered that if i have a microsoft email program open with a scheduled check active. It causes the skip or stutter when ever that progran checks for new emails. iTunes works perfectly when I shut down the microsoft email program.
Hope this helps
I am having the same issue on my MacBook Pro specifically. I have an old Mac Pro that seems to work fine.
It irritates the heck out of me as well.
I'm *still* having the skipping issues even after several updates. I currently have 11.0.1.12 so it is not limited to iTunes 10. The only purpose my iTunes currently serves is to sync my iPhone and iPod. I can no longer play anything on it without it skipping. It really ****** me off. I have to use freaking Windows Player of all things! GAH!
I had never had this issue prior to version 10, and it's been on the same computer for ever. And it's been wiped and updates before, during and after with no change. So it isn't my computer. 🙂
Dear Apple. Please fix. thanks.
I could have NOTHING running in the background and still have the skipping issue. 🙂
I have determined the skipping issue with Itunes. Apple has fine tuned there Sudden Motion Sensor.
Sudden Motion Sensor (SMS) technology is built-in protection for the hard disk that is designed to help prevent disk issues if the computer is dropped or undergoes severe vibration.
If the computer feels a sudden motion it will park the hard drive when doing this it will pause the song unil the hard drive is safe to resume. You can disable this feature. (see below link)
That, however, does not apply to those of us who are on a Windows desktop computer where no one is touching the console. I'm just saying.
you need to get into your computers audio settings, then get into your default settings, and change your computers sample rate and bit depth. youll see options that look like "24 bits, 441000 Hz". click that and increase your output. problem fixed.
