Music skips since Itunes 10

I can see this thread and problem has been going on for years. And, there is no one fix.
It's obviously an Apple problem.
I had this problem last year and I don't remember how I cured it back then.
I'm using Windows 8, the latest iTunes and Quicktime
It just started again the last few days, so I went with the kitchen sink approach and tried a bunch of the different suggested solutions. I'm not sure which one actually worked
- Cleaned out my registry
- Disabled all but the essential and recommended start up programs
- Changed the bit rate to the highest
- Changed the setting in the apple.exe to "above normal"
Something worked...knock on wood...

Fixed at 12.1.1.4
Finally!!
iTunes just came out with the update, like wooglin7 said, and and it specifically addresses this problem! Just downloaded it and it works without any skips!
Still skips here, maybe not that often but still do.
Brownforest, is it skipping or are you getting digital clipping?
The update fixed my skipping issues, which sounded like a scratched CD. That hasn't happened since the update.
But now I get digital clipping which sounds different. Its a more harsh sounding digital error, I cant think of a good way to describe it. I would think its somehow related to bit rate but I dont know.
Anyone else experiencing this?
corey, I dont have the same options when I right click in Windows 8. Any suggestions? Thanks
Changing the priority for iTunes does seem to alleviate the "stuttering" playback, but I've found that it also renders other applications near-unusable.
There are re occuring quiet dropouts of a 1/2 second or so. Changing priority in services.msc doesn't fix the problem.
Are you all guys, like me, streaming through Airport express or AppleTV or some of you running wired? Could it be the wireless streaming causing this?
I have a Dell Inspiron 15 running Windows 8.1 with the most current version of iTunes (12.2.1) installed. I have tried each and ever one of the suggestions provided in this thread and none of them seem to work for the songs that are skipping. I have also tried recopying the files from my backup drive (which worked from some songs but not all). Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have also found that the songs that skip will skip on my iPhone 5s but not necessarily on my son's iPhone 4s. This is very frustrating as I have a sizeable iTunes library.
I have the EXACT same problem...even though I'm on a mac. I'm using a regular unibody MacBook (White, mid-2010) running OSx 10.6.8 and iTunes 11.4. I have no idea when the problem started but I know it didn't happen right after I upgraded to iTunes 11, it happened later. And the weird part about all of this is not only that it only happens to songs that aren't purchased but also that the time the song skips is different based on artist. All of my Bastille albums, for example skip at exactly 1:28. Every single Bastille song I own does that except, like, 2. All of my 30 Seconds to Mars songs skip at exactly 1:21 or 1:22. I have no idea what this is and I've tried every single fix out there...changing the audio settings in the Audio MIDI set up tool, trying to turn off the sudden motion sense thingy but terminal wouldn't prompt me for my password so I never managed to turn it off, messing with the playback settings, checking the start time and end time on each track, nothing works.
Everytime the songs skip here's what happens: it'll go to that point in the song, the counter (the numbers that say what point in the song I'm at) and the playhead will change to the end time, and it'll skip to the next one in the album, which will skip to the next one again at the same time period in the song. I don't know if that helps anyone but that's what happens. That's what the iTunes player is doing. Like, for example, I'll play Pompeii, it'll play until 1:28, then skip to Bad Blood, which will play until 1:28, then it'll skip to These Streets...and so on and so forth.
I've read countless other threads on this issue and from what I read it seems to be an issue with the library itself and not the iTunes program? At least that's what people are theorizing.
I know it's not an issue with the music files themselves, because they play fine in EVERY SINGLE OTHER music program I have/have tried...Finder's 'quick look' feature, VLC, Quicktime, Audacity, Songbird, Nightingale, Swinsian...in fact I downloaded Nightingale/Songbird BECAUSE of this issue...just downloaded it yesterday because I was fed UP with the issue. I have no idea what's going on and it's infuriating!
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
The other weird thing about this is I open the iTunes library (aka the 'Music' folder in my iTunes 'media' folder) into Nightingale and some of the metadata is incorrect/missing, but in iTunes it's all intact. I can open up my iTunes and every single Bastille album will have both the artist and the album artist as 'Bastille', but in Nightingale some of the albums won't have an album artist at all...or a chunk of my albums *in Nightingale* will have missing album art but in iTunes will still be there...even after checking track by track. I wonder what's going on and if that has anything to do with it...
Another thing I've noticed is that a song will play completely fine and then I'll use iTunes 'get info' feature (to change an album name or a track number or year or whatever) for the metadata and as soon as I change something then it'll skip. Not in any other program, just iTunes specifically. What the ****?
In case this helps anyone I also tried the 'delete and re-add' music fix that's so prevalent on the internet...that still didn't work. I played Pompeii and it played all the way through but the next tracks in the album still had the same issue.
