iPhone 4 screen flicker when waking from sleep

Hi,

I noticed that when I wake my iPhone from sleep it has a flicker before lockscreen appears. Has anybody else noticed this?

Just to say I had the same problems with my iphone 4 that you reported, including the slight zoomed screen and resizing as well as the flicker and screen going black/pixels. I got a replacement phone from apple, and again same issues (after restoring from backup). After reading your post yesterday, I turned off the zoom feature - and also happy to report since then, have had no issues. Will repost if the problem comes up again.
Thanks for the help!

Thanks for letting us know pebo1!

I've had close to a week now of perfect behavior by following this fix.

As an experiment last night, I tried to duplicate the flickering by turning settings.general.accessibility.zoom back on. Sure enough, the flickering returned!

Here's exactly the steps I took to make it happen:
1. Turn zoom on
2. Use three fingers as described to zoom in by ONE unit only, by the smallest amount it will zoom. I use the word 'unit' because the smallest amount it would zoom looked like a difference of about 5 pixels. Don't know for sure, just a guess, but it was the SMALLEST amount of zoom I could do.
3. Proceeded to mess about quickly opening and shutting apps, switching apps, putting the phone to sleep and waking it up again. Repeatedly. And very fast.

Sure enough, I was able to get it to start flickering/go blank within 60secs five times in a row, so badly that the phone required rebooting.

Switch zoom off, and problem goes away.

I couldn't pin down an exact order messing around that would reliably do it, but it didn't take too much really.

By the way I only opened core apps during this process, never any questionable apps that some earlier theorized had dodgy code in them.

It is great to hear that most of you guys have the "flicker" issue resolved after disabling the "zoom" function.

However, I have no luck. I did a complete restore (as a new phone) and also have disabled the zoom function. Still, I experience the same screen flicker on wake up. Initially, I felt bad about having to live with it. Now, I am better as it is just a minor issue and it does not affect the functions of my iPhone 4.

Someone out there if you see this and you are aware of the true problem to the "flicker" issue, please share it here for iPhone lovers like myself.

Thanks...

Okay so heres what i found out. i went to the Apple store because the flicker was making me very angry and they gave me a brand new one. NO FLICKER until then when i installed my gaming apps again. I only use 3 apps that are gaming now because i dont use games. the games use is plants vs zombies and doodle jump the other is game center. also it may be your iphone u never know.

I also suspect that some particular games caused the 'flicker'. But the thing is I have done a Complete Restore of my iPhone and that should have erased every single bit of gaming data on my phone. Now, the problem still persists... The screen flickers once (when in a bright environment) on wake up.

Though I have learnt to accept it and live with it, if someone could offer a solution, I would deeply appreciate that.

I do hope the next iOS update would rectify this issue.

friend, like me, just take it easy.

even if you were to get a replacement from Apple, it could be still experiencing the same problem, and who knows, plus other problems. On top of that, what if that replacement set turned out to be a refurbished set?

i have learnt to live with the flicker... after all, it does not even affect my phone functions...

cheers...

I started getting this screen flicker on my 4s the other day, ts just a really quick flicker when i press the 'wake' button on the top of the phone, i couldnt figure it out for days but i think i know what the problem is now,

I realized that it never flickered when i was in low light conditions, but as soon as i was in a bright well lit areait would flicker, it would almost definatley flicker when there was a light source reflecting off the screen.

Therefore i thought this was a problem with the auto brightness, i turned it off but it still happens, i havent fixed this problem, but i think i've identified where its comming from.
