I have wifi, it works. I have downloaded apps and streamed a great quality flick on netflix. But everytime I try to activate my facetime on the newest itouch. It says "check your network connection and try again". Please help.
Off of your comment I found this (applicable for iphone 4), it may work but I am unable to test right now.
"If the Wi-Fi network router that you are connected to uses a firewall or security software to restrict Internet access, contact the network administrator and reference this technical article. To use FaceTime on a restricted Wi-Fi network, port forwarding must be enabled for ports 443 (TCP), 3478–3497 (UDP), 16384–16386 (UDP), and 16393–16402 (UDP)." - Apple site
I'm having FaceTime activation problems as well. When I attempt to login to "activate" FaceTime I am repeatedly told that my username/password is incorrect. However, I've been signing into iTunes and to these very forums using the same username and password...so I know it's correct.
Ditto! Every time I try to activate FaceTime using my Apple ID I'm told that my username/password is incorrect. The only solution that seems to have worked was creating a brand new login ID. Frustrating.
Well, this is completely and totall ********. It appears as though FaceTime only deals well with an Apple ID that is an email address. When I was initially attempting to enter my original Apple ID it was just an name with no additional formatting/characters. I noticed that nothing at all would happen when I attempted to login, but if I stuck an "@abc.com" after the name it looked like it was at least trying to log in.
I went to the Apple site and changed my Apple ID (was able to keep my existing account/data, just a name change) to an email address...after that I was able to log in.
Hey, Apple clowns...this is kind of important and basic. You think you might want to thrown an insert in the box along with the iPod? Or would that ruin your finely calibrated industrial design?
This is how I was able to fix it.
I turned off my wifi connection on my ipod touch and turned it back on again.
Facetime was activated with my apple id.
I actually did power my WiFi connection off/on several times (both on the phone and at my router)...oddly though things like the app store and iTunes on the phone were working fine even when I couldn't get into FaceTime.
Blankrock, can you comment on the format/structure of your Apple ID? Was it/is it an email address?
